Hello Listers, Oral history has it that when my great grandmother, Martha Atkinson, married Wilkinson Binns in 1856, she married "beneath herself " because she had been in service with Isacc Holden. Although I can find her parents in Oakworth in the 1851 census, Martha is not at home. Is anybody able to tell me if she was with the Holden family, wherever that was? Also was it likely that being in service with the well-to-do would have been seen to be "posh"? Best wishes, David Binns, Tyneside.
