Reported in the Indian Herald 1796 In India, Ben the Bengal Tiger had a remarkable conflict with Mr William TURNER of Bradford, Yorkshire, England. It was a long tail to tell and caused many pawses for thought in the telling. Mr Turner and Ben fought like animals but only scratched the surface of their dispute. The battle was called off due to the discovery of claws 23.1.21 of the Indian convention for animal rights. Ben survived only by a whisker and was awarded an extra stripe for bravery. After meeting Baden Powell he was impressed with his Cubs and founded the Scout Movement. He died on Feb 14 1798 and is displayed in Bradford Town Hall. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roy Stockdill" <roy@stockdillfhs.org.uk> To: <ENG-YKS-BRADFORD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 13, 2003 11:50 PM Subject: Re: [ BRAD] Yorkshire Snippets - Bradford entries part 4 WAS there any news of the tiger??? > > > Died Thursday last at Bradford aged 86 years, Mr William TURNER. > > The deceased fought at the siege of Seringapatam and had also a > > remarkable conflict with a tiger in India about sixty years ago. < > > > Roy Stockdill (Editor, Journal of One-Name Studies) > Guild of One-Name Studies:- www.one-name.org > Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History:- www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html > ==== ENG-YKS-BRADFORD Mailing List ==== Do not advertise commercial or non genealogical content links after or within your messages without first seeking permission from the Admin.
