Hello list, may I introduce myself, I am in Hopewell, just west of Princeton, New Jersey. We moved here from the UK two years ago, and I've only recently had time to start this fascination! I am trying to continue with the research my father did on his Bottomley and Eastwood families before he died six years ago. How I wish I'd asked my Dad to explain it all before he died, but then we didn't expect it to happen so quickly and I didn't intend to leave it all in a box for 5 years, so..........I'm hoping now that with the internet and all it's resources, I may be able to fill in the missing links. The Bottomley side of my tree starts with my father, Jack Bottomley, born 1920, died 1996. Sister Annie Mary & brother Charles. His father was Rudolf Armistead Bottomley, born 11.11.1895 to Joshua Bottomley & Mary Ann Brown, nee Scott. One of seven children, including 2 from Mary Ann's first marriage. Brothers Benjamin, Henry Ernest, David Cecil, Charles Vickers (died as a baby). Stepbrother/sister William & Lily Brown. All born Horton. Lived Chester Street, Horton. Have details of marriages of Benjamin, Henry Ernest and David Cecil. No record of their children, although I know my father made contact with some of them (his cousins). His mother was an Eastwood (Alice, born 9.6.1889), I am also trying to trace the Eastwood line. Rudolf's father was Joshua Bottomley, born 20.1.1854, died 7.11.1928. One of six children. Brother William Henry, sisters Elizabeth Ann, Harriet, Sarah Ellen, Mary. All born Horton, Bradford. Lived 144 Leeds Road/83 Garnett Street/3 Park Lane/5 William Street. Have details of marriage of William Henry & child John Rudolf Bottomley. Joshua's father was Benjamin Bottomley, born 8.6.1824, date of death unknown. Married a Mary Armitstead 28.12.1848. Two sisters, Rebecca & Martha. Details of marriage dates and spouses for sisters. Benjamin's father seems to be James Bottomley, possibly married to a Sarah Calvert on 9.2.1790. No details of death of either. Marriage date 9.2.1790. I have no further records for them. My paternal Grandmother was Alice Eastwood born 9.6.1889 in Thornton, Bradford (birth cert. says Victoria Street, Queensbury USD Clayton - not sure if this is/was a hospital) to Sam Eastwood and Hannah Nelson. She married my grandfather Rudolf Armistead Bottomley on 26.12.1917 at St John's Parish Church, Great Horton and had 3 children, Charles, Jack (my father) and Annie Mary. She died 8.11.1957, a year before I was born at St Lukes Hospital, Bradford. She was one of 5 children born to Sam & Hannah, three brothers, Harry, Willie & Albert, one sister Annie. Sam Eastwood left England (& his wife) in the 1920's ( I think) and came to America (Chicago) with Harry & Annie. I have details of Annie's subsequent marriage & death in Massachusetts but nothing about what happened to Sam & Harry. Albert stayed in Bradford, I recall meeting his wife when I was very young. Willie died in 1918. Sam Eastwood's father was a David born between 1824 & 1827, married a Mary Ann Newell on 30.5.1852 and an Elizabeth Spencer on 14.2.1885 a year after Mary Ann died. From his marriage to Mary Ann he produced Ellen, Martha, Mary, Sarah Ann, Sam, John and Elizabeth Ann! I have no record of any children produced with Elizabeth, but he s 58 when he married her!! I have a birth cert. but it doesn't correspond with his age given on the marriage & death certs. Need to follow up on that! So..... maybe there are some cousins in the UK, children of Albert & his wife Alice, or maybe there are some Eastwood offspring in or near Chicago from Sam or Harry! Hoping that someone may be able to expand on any of this. Thank you in anticipation, Linda Willimer (Bottomley)
