Hi List, In response to Jan's request, here's my surname interests in the area. All my folks come from various parts of Scotland, bar one who immigrated from Bradford: my gt-grandparents Cornelius BOTTOMLEY and Rebecca ARMITAGE, who moved from Bradford to Glasgow with their first born Armitage BOTTOMLEY abt 1860 (one day I'll find where they were in 1861!). I've got good coverage of my Bottomley side, including collateral lines, but the Armitage line stops with Rebecca's father Samuel ARMITAGE born around 1804 in Yorkshire, possibly Leeds but then again possibly not: he married Rachel FEATHER d/o James FEATHER and Mary WOOD thought to be from Keithley and Haworth respectively, and died 1845 Otley Rd Bradford. Up the Bottomley line: gt-gt-gdparents: James BOTTOMLEY Shelf and Hannah CARR abt 1801 Bowling, maybe d/o John CARR Martha WILSON. 3xgt-gdparents: John BOTTOMLEY Cockroyd Farm N Bierley and Sally HAGUE, she died 1819 probably Soaper Lane N Bierley, thought to be b 1771 Bradford d/o Joseph Hague. JB remarried, to Bathsheba HOLROYD. 4xgt-gdparents: James BOTTOMLEY and Hannah KELLETT, she died 1830 Cockroyd Farm N Bierley, thought to be b 1753 Willow Hall, Halifax to Moses KELLETT. 5xgt-gdparents: John BOTTOMLEY and Mary HELLEWELL. This ends the strict Bradford connection, for he was born Dec 1771 in Northowram to Jeremiah and Jane BOTTOMLEY and moved across the border to Cockroyd Farm N Bierley where he died in 1793, and she was born Dec 1771 in Eringden Heptonstall to Daniel HELLEWELL and Susan PLATTS and died abt 1803 Cockroyd. Information on these maternal lines off the main Bottomley line would be welcome. Howard Geddes
