Hi again Ann I had a fossick through old notes & found this which will have been taken from a reply to this or another list. Hope it adds a little more. U.S.D." means "Urban Sanitary District" - the forerunner of "Urban District". Nobody seems to know why, but between 1875 and 1955 births and deaths were classified as occurring in "Urban" or "Rural" areas. From 1875 to 1894 you'll see USD or RSD (Urban or Rural Sanitary District) and from 1894 to 1955 you'll see UD or RD (Urban or Rural District). Rosemary Ackroyd
