I suppose I should have explained, I found that information by looking at other residents of Pratt Street in 1861, and then looking them up on the 1871 census. I was lucky! A Mr William Dewhirst was at the same address on both censuses! -----Original Message----- From: Roy Stockdill [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 17 July 2006 13:49 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ BRAD] Pratt Street From: "Ian J Slipper" <[email protected]> > Hello Rachel, > Please can you tell us how you are able to extract that information? > It sound like a useful trick to learn.> As Rachel has mentioned, www.1837online.com allows you to perform address searches in both the 1861 and 1891 censuses, which are the only two they have online at the moment. No doubt the rest will appear eventually. This is, of course, a pay-per-view website with a minimum charge (credit card) of 5 pounds, which gets you 50 or 55 units. It's free to search the census indexes but to view a record or image (obviously it's best to choose the image since the record is a not-always accurate transcription) costs 3 units. 1837online has the advantage (well, for someone like myself who does it professionally and therefore has to outlay a certain amount of investment) that the more units you buy in the bulk the cheaper they become. The TNA version of the 1901 census also has a facility to enable you to search by address. Someone will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe Ancestry's indexes permit street address searches. They allow you to search by piece, book and folio number but if you knew these you probably wouldn't need to do the search anyway!
