From: "david harden" <[email protected]> > iinfo on 217 horton lane bradford 1934 is the year i am interested in,> 217 Horton Lane was St Luke's Hospital. Half the population of Bradford was born there, including me! It's on my birth certificate. What you must understand is that up to about 1928/9 St Luke's was the former Bradford Union Workhouse until it became a general hospital. In those times the address was still regarded as a stigma, i.e. being born in the workhouse. I've had this discussion on another list and it seems that the address 217 Horton Lane was still being put on birth certificates until the 1960s! Beyond belief, I know, but there it is.
