From: "pamela robinson" > HELLO, I am new to the list, and wonder if anyone can help me, I am > looking for the Merredle family, who were living in Bradford Milton, > York. in the 1850's - where is Bradford Milton? Thankyou - > Pam> I think you have completely the wrong list. There are several places in England called Bradford but I cannot find anywhere called Bradford Milton. However, I suspect the place you may be looking for is West Bradford, a village and township in the parish of GREAT MITTON, which is near the town of Clitheroe on the Yorkshire-Lancashire border. It was in the West Riding of Yorkshire for most genealogical purposes but is technically now in Lancashire, following the 1974 local government reorganisation. You will find information about it at the following website... http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/WRY/Greatmitton/ West Bradford is some 30-40 miles from the major city of Bradford, which this list covers. However, I note that on the 1901 census virtually all of the Merredle entries (and there are only 13 of them) were in the Sheffield area and mostly born there. I couldn't see anyone of the name at all in the 1861 census and only two in 1881. What were the full names of your folks, so I can maybe find them in 1861 if they have been mistranscribed (which with such an unusual name is quite likely)? -- Roy Stockdill Guild of One-Name Studies: www.one-name.org Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."
