As many of you will know looking for a SUTCLIFFE is like looking for a needle in a haystack. So I am very happy to say I may have found mine. John Sutcliffe who married Charity Galloway gave his birth place as Mountain in the 1871 census. He was living in Drighlington. I have had help searching for his family in Mountain Queensbury area. John's father was William a coal miner.By chance I came across a family in the 1851census in Ovenden.William HoH and a second son John Sutcliffe of the right age 11 to be mine. I would be glad of geographical as well as genealogical expertise here. William's wife was Betty. If Betty had family she went to at John's birth, might that show as Mountain? I realise I may have to look for his birth certificate, I have not found it yet. There are siblings too so might there be baptism records in Ovenden? The 1851 census says they were all born Ovenden. The marriage of William and Betty (Elizabeth?) was probably before 1837,as first son James was born 1835/6. Is this assuming too much? I hope I am nearer to finding John and family but do not feel sure how to proceed without bying a lot of certificates. If I can pinpoint the birth and parents marriage that would be good. Valerie Is this the right list for this query?
