Hi Everyone Just a reminder that a group of people from Canada, USA, Australia, NZ, Portugal, Germany and the UK with Yorkshire ancestors are getting together in York between July 8-22nd this year. We plan on furthering our research at the many different archive offices, have a few interesting coach side trips, walks around York, behind the scenes visits to Borthwick, as well as researching there. (Borthwick is within walking distance from where we will be staying.) People can elect to take part in the Family History Workshop, "Writing your History". This is not a lecture from a speaker, but an actual workshop. You can pick and choose which or any of the events that may interest you. The program is optional. We will have plenty of time to have fun on our own or with others. Check out http://www.yorksgen.com/ and follow the links to Yorksgen 2006 We are staying in 10 bedroom houses very near York University. Buses nearby go directly into York. The bedrooms are single, being decent in size and are furnished with bed, wardrobe, desk and sink in each room. Shared facilities include a large well equipped kitchen. Often we are so busy that breakfast is the only meal we all seem to eat there. However, preparing all of your meals is also a way to minimize the cost of this get together. We have a laundromat and a store within a couple minutes walk. Heslington Village is a 7-10 minute walk. We often use the Charles X11 as a place for some social gathering. Don't have to be a drinker to enjoy the company there. Some people are coming as couples, but many of them are coming solo. Don't worry if you don't know anyone as the group is a very friendly bunch. We have been offering rooms on a weekly basis from either July 8-15th or July 15th-22nd. Cost of the rental of a single bedroom is only 70 pounds per week. You can't beat those rates. If anyone is interested in any info about this event or would like more info, please contact me offlist. We also have a few rooms that we will offer on a 2 night minimum basis. Maybe you are able to only come for the workshop or maybe you would like to take part in one of our side trips. Take a look at the program on the website mentioned. The cost of a 2 night minimum stay is 15 pounds per room per night or a minimum of 30 pounds per person. This alternative may appeal to people in the UK who cannot spend the full week with us. Please let me know ASAP. If anyone wishes further info, please contact me offlist. Janet Lovegrove
