Dear all Felt so proud of myself, then thought am I doing something others do normally. What do you think. 1. Went on 1881 to see if I could find My mothers family WENSLEY entered WENSLEY 1800 plus /minus 10 years Got my the usual for my family in North Yorkshire, but I know and fancy that some went into Lancs. Entered the following date plus/minus(shorter timespan if you are a Green/ Brown/ Smith etc) watching the left hand part.son/wife/dau/b in law/moth in law etc after 1860 it is too much hassle to look at son/wife/dau,because you have looked at the head of the house so they are included. instead I looked for something different,grandson/daugher.servant,plus anything that was not family. I came up with a widow of a Wensley with mother,(maiden name) (I do not know who) a Wensley in service(which I would have missed on 1881 alone, not at home), a Wensley in the army plus 1 in Jail. 2 On ebay there is a man (harryhilda)selling census data for £1.25 plus & 75p postage(30p per extra item)he sells various census,I do not know what he has got but the one's advertised are 1851/ 1891 varies places, photocopies of the originals,£2 cheap a ???????????. Sorry if I bored you but it was news to me. All the best Alec
Hi Alec Just a quick note to say - you may not need to pay for census look-ups - it's always worth asking the list first, someone will probably find your family for you and send the image. You;'ll need to give any known details of the people you're looking for, plus which census you're interested in. The publishers of census CDs, such as S&N (British Data Archive) and Archive CD Books, are concerned that many of the CDs available on eBay are either illegal copies or are being sold in breach of the original licence agreement. If you hope to see a continuing flow of new resources from these publishers and do not wish to harm their businesses, I would urge you to buy their products direct or through legitimate intermediaries such as family history societies.
