Valerie was asking about a battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales' Own). Are you sure it was the 9th? There was a 6th Battalion and a second 6th (my father was in that one), but I have no knowledge of a 9th (that is not to say that there wasn't one however). It's not much, but it may help a little. Keith
Yes Keith , In Memory of Sydney TOWN who died 90 years ago today I have checked his Battalion. He was 18490 9th Bn West Yorkshire Regt(Prince of Wales Own) >From recent information I now know it was formed at York on 25th August 1914. Through very helpful information I have discovered that Sydney must have travelled far more than we knew as he was in Balkans in 1915.I find the Battalion numbers very confusing but believe the 9th was 32nd Brigade 11th Division. War diaries are new research for me so I have lots of reading and checking to do.
