Jan M/12963 H.M S/M D6 - ROYAL NAVY - SUBMARINE D6IED ON THE 24 JUNE 1918 AGE 24 - OF ST MARGARETS ROAD (OR STREET ?) LEGRAMS LANE , BRADFORD. REMEMBERED WITH HONOUR CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL SAMUEL GILL WAS BORN ON THE 3RD MARCH 1894 AT KEIGHLEY HMS D6 was a British D class submarine built by Vickers, Barrow. D6 was laid down on 24 February 1910, launched 24 October 1911 and was commissioned on 19 April1912. D6 was the first of the D class to be armed with guns forward of the conning tower. D6 was sunk by UB-73 73 miles north of Inishtrahull Island off the west coast of Ireland on 28 June1918. There were 2 survivors.  MEDAL CORRECTLY NAMED TO M.12963 S.GILL ERA3 RN - MEDAL IN LOVELY UNCLEANED EF CONDITION COMES WITH SOME RESEARCH + SERVICE PAPERS - DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPH WAS PURCHASED FROM ROYAL NAVAL SUBMARINE MUSEUM AND DATED 1917 WHEN S.GILL WAS SERVING - HE IS PROBABLY IN IT BUT I AM UNABLE TO IDENTIFY HIM - PLENTY MORE SCOPE FOR RESEARCH - RARE SUBMARINE V'S SUBMARINE CASULTY OF WORLD WAR ONE ________________________________________ -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users.
