All the grave stones were transcribed up to from opening to c2000 This is to be put on a CD soon, By Bradford Family History Soc.,. We do not add items to our Web Pages until the CD's etc are on offer. We intend to type up most of Undercliffe MI's soon. There is a part of Undercliffe that is very dangerous, until this is sorted, we can not continue transcribing the graves stones. The job has been going on for many years, the CD will out as soon as possible. Regards Janet > > Janet Ogden Project Officer for Bradford FHSoc., FreeCEN 1891 > Huddersfield & Saddleworth Also for FreeREG Yorkshire> Janet There appears to be some confusion here. MIs (Monumental Inscriptions on graves) are not the same thing as burial records, as we both know. I happen to know that the Friends of Undercliffe have approximately 125,000 records of burials at the cemetery because a cousin and I went looking for our ancestors' graves at Undercliffe some years ago - back in the 1990s, in fact. We actually met the then secretary of the Friends of Undercliffe in the cemetery and she asked us to phone her at home later. When we did and gave her the names of our ancestors, she gave us the full details of where the grave was, who was in it and even who had originally paid for it. As it happened, when we went back to search again we found the grave had disappeared, apparently sunk below the ground due to neglect, but at least we had the details from the records of burials. I have suggested to Margaret she contacts the Friends of Undercliffe because I KNOW they have the burial records. Not the same thing as MIs at all because many of the graves have disappeared or are no longer recognisable, therefore MIs may not help. But the actual records of who was buried and when and where do! -- Roy Stockdill Editor, Journal of One-Name Studies Guild of One-Name Studies website: www.one-name.org Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." 3. Janet, Thank you for the information and may I also say thank you to all of you that have undertaken this task of copying MIs. As someone who has has several relatives buried in Undercluffe cemetary but who is unable to get to Bradford very often, I look forward to the CD being available. Michael Thanks for the fhs link, I have not come across that one before, most useful. Roy, Thank you also, I take on board what you say about the difference between Burial records and Monumental Inscriptions. I am sure if we use both resources rather than just one we will get a large amount of information. If some of the information is similar then even better - I am always being told by people who have studied genealogy for years that the more sources you can find to confirm information the better.
