    3. From: "E. Holdsworth" <yzzil.yrruc@virgin.net> > Roy, What is this bandwidth I wasted responding to Maureen? Should I > be checking on it before I choose to respond to queries?> I was simply making the point that if posters are not specific about precisely which families they are researching, then some posters will respond with messages saying "I have a Farrer [or whatever name] in my tree," only for the OP to reply that they are not connected in any way! Get half a dozen of these and we all waste time downloading and reading them, especially those who are still on dial-up. That's bandwidth. I am sorry if you can't see the point, but where a relatively common surname is involved it surely makes common sense to be as specific as possible. "Would you seriously post a message along the lines of "Researching Smiths in Yorkshire"? I recently posted a similar message to another Yorkshire list and the Administrator actually asked my permission to use my words and advice in his Welcome message to new listers. -- Roy Stockdill Professional genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."
