    3. Norman All I can say is that my father worked as a GP in Bradford in the 1960s. At one point I had to take a phone message for him. It was a man who suspected that his workmate had a case of the bends, so they must have been operating in some sort of diving environment in the Bradford area. I can only think that it was something to do with sewers or reservoirs. Any ideas on how to begin? Who might employ one for example? I don't suppose there's another meaning for "diver" related to mill work or the like? I doubt it means divers(e) employment. In the 19th century a considerable number of reservoirs were constructed on the moors high above towns like Bradford and Halifax to serve those places. Look at any map of the area particularly around Halifax and further west into the Dales and you will see many reservoirs. You can get an excellent "feel" for them with Google Earth. Look particularly above Hebden Bridge, in the Calder Valley west of Halifax, and towards Haworth. You will see numerous reservoirs and lakes up on the moors. -- Roy Stockdill Professional genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."
