    3. Firstly I would want my mother who died 5 years ago to tell her what I have found out about her mother who died when she was 18 months old. I would tell her how her mothers family came from a beautiful little village in Cambridgeshire but her family were recruited by the Mill owners from Bradford who wanted young and old, children and adults, to work in the mills. I would want all of the Roberts family who moved from Cambridgeshire to Bradford to find out how they journeyed so far, how they felt when they saw where they were to live? I would invite Mary Ann Coates my 2 x great grandmother as there are several things I would like to know. Mary Ann was illegitimate and her mother Mary also appeared to have an illegitimate son called Samuel in 1841. What happened to Samuel as I cannot find him in 1851. Who was Hannah Hoyle that her mother Mary was living with in 1841 and why was Mary Ann living with Hannah in 1861 - what happened to her mother? Was Hannah really her grandmother as it states on the 1861 census or did she just call her that? I would also want Rose Atkinson nee Cherry who was my 3rd great grandmother from Masham . I would like to know what was it like to have 12 children in the early 1800s and how did they celebrate Christmas with so many? I admire Rose as when she married she made a mark so could not read or write, but at the end of her life she was writing letters to her sons in America and New Zealand. How did she learn to write? how did she feel with her sons travelling so far and with little chance of seeing them again? I love her letters, a mixture of gossip, warnings about drink and loose women and discussion re Womens wages and the local economy. She gives the impression she observed and noted many things so I would love to know about her life and the changes she saw between 1808 and 1886. I would want the husband of Rose too as I want to know was his father George Atkinson or Bateman Atkinson - these 2 both had a son called George within an 18month period and 1 of them had disappeared by the time census records were kept. That would be a start but I would need to rent a hotel to have all I would really like to speak to. Merry Xmas Liz

    3. Art'noon Listers My Christmas Dinner guests would be my "make-you-eyes-water" great-grandparents, proven or not - Hannah WATSON (b1852 in Carnaby), to find out if 1871 Census lodger in Glasidale William PICKERING, really was the father of my illegitmate grandfather James WATSON (b1871)..... Sarah Ann CLARKE (b1850 in East Harlsey), to find out the real story behind her eight illegitimate children, six of whom were allegedly to my supposed grandfather Samuel WALKER (including my grandmother Elizabeth Jane b1875), before they married and had four more legitimate children together, all in the Rosedale "Klondyke" years...... Hannah MOORHOUSE nee WHITFIELD (b1840 in Idle) (husband Edwin having long disappeared), to find out if twice married and twice widowed neighbour Nathaniel GREAVES really was the father of my illegitimate grandfather Ernest MOORHOUSE (b1869), before he buggered-off to Pennsylvania..... and Christopher HARTLEY (b1831 in Eccleshill) and Mary Ann BARRACLOUGH (b1843 in Eccleshill) who thankfully seem to have led straightforward and uncomplicated lives...... And if anyone with a decade to spare can throw any more light on the less than straightforward ones, you are welcome to join us in Sevilla to celebrate a Yorkshire Christmas in Spain....... I jest not! Greetings to all on the list - particularly my cousins (Garry Fudge - we owe you a large drink!!!) Feliz Navidad to all, and a good New Year too. Enjoy! 3. Jan, this is a great idea. There are quite a few people, but I'll choose one, my gt grandfather James Blackburn. Please tell me if the photo I have of the very old lady in a shawl, taken in Bradford in the 1800s was your mother, Elizabeth OATES.. Why did your mother re-marry to Samuel BARRACLOUGH, a man 30 years younger? Why he write that mysterious note for her about her children and what does it mean? James, you married Sarah Ann ROLLINSON but who is the Tom Rollinson who is living with you on the census, called nephew. It says his mother was the son of an innkeeper and her name was Anne. What happened to him? And, James, after Sarah died and that witchy Mrs Salt sued you for breach of contract to marry, what furniture was it that she accused you of hiding? Was it by any chance the tall case clock that was brought over here from England in 1934? Why was that clock so important? Was it cut down so that it could fit into your brother's house? James, please describe the leaflet from Crofts & Perkins that showed a photo of you standing next to a great big machine, at least tell me the date so that I can find it in some archives and see what you looked like. Lastly, James, despite the scandal about you and this Mrs Salt who caused you to go bankrupt, I think you must have been a good man. You should have received credit for your split pulley invention, not just a pittance from the company that stole it from you. You raised your children well, you worked hard, and you didn't deserve the treatment you got. (I'm so glad you came here for Christmas) Best, Lois Lois Blackburn Massachusetts Blackburn, Carr, Dixon, Murgatroyd, Oates, Rollinson, Sugden, Thornton all WRY, mostly Halifax & Bradford. --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? It was sent by a medical doctor - Make sure to read what is in the closing statement AFTER THE POEM.SLOW DANCEHave you ever watched kidsOn a merry-go-round?Or listened to the rainSlapping on the ground?Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?Or gazed at the sun into the fading night? You better slow down.Don't dance so fast.Time is short. The music won't last.Do you run through each dayOn the fly? When you ask How are you?Do you hear the reply? When the day is doneDo you lie in your bedWith the next hundred choresRunning through your head? You'd better slow downDon't dance so fast.Time is short. The music won't last.Ever told your child,We'll do it tomorrow? And in your haste,Not see hissorrow?Ever lost touch,Let a good friendship dieCause you never! had timeTo call and say,"Hi"You'd better slow down.Don't dance so fast.Time is short. The music won't last. When you run so fast to get somewhereYou miss half the fun of getting there. When you worry and hurry through your day,It is like an unopened gift....Thrown away.Life is not a race.Do take it slowerHear the musicBefore the song is over.--------------------FORWARDED E-MAILS ARE TRACKED TO OBTAIN THE TOTAL COUNT.Dear All: PLEASE pass this mail on to everyone you know - even to those you don't know! It is the request of a special girl who will soon leave this world due to cancer. This young girl has 6 months left to live, and as her dying wish, she wanted to send a letter telling everyone to live their life to the fullest, since she never will. She'll never make it to prom, graduate from high school, or get married and have a family of her own.By you sending this to as many people as possible, you can give her and her family a little hope, because with every name that this i! s sent to, The American Cancer Society will donate 3 cents per! name to her treatment and recovery plan. 3. I have a Priscilla HUDSON who married Charles STARTIN. She was the daughter of Grace and I think Richard HUDSON. She was not born in Bradford but did live there for a while and my g grandmother was born there. HUDSON is a fairly common name though.
