Hi Derek I have to say I have missed you very much. Personally you have been an inspiration to me over the years. I did wonder where you had disappeared to and had no idea how to find out. You take care of yourself................. Jan xxxx
Hello Valerie The following men are remembered on the WW1 Roll of Honour in St Mary's. No CREEDON's are listed. Timothy McEvoy - died 1916 Joseph McEvoy - died 1917 Edward McEvoy - died 1918 A few weeks ago there was an article in the T&A about the church but this seems to have been taken down now. I'll keep the list updated with any news on this church and the Roll of Honour. Kind regards Judith K Valerie Gilbert <gilbert.valerie@btinternet.com> wrote: Hi Judith and Dennis, Thanks for posting your information regarding this church. I recall you had some info on Daniel McEvoy who married Mary Creedon. Did you know her brother William was in the Durham light infantry? I think he may have gone to Burma and died there. Yes, indeed, welcome back Derek. You have been such a help and encouragement and good example in earlier searches. I have missed seeing all your helpful activity. I still have a SUTCLIFFE to find if you ever run out of searches ! ! ! Actually I'm leaving him at rest for a while as other branches have started to sprout new possibilities. Best wishes with all your research Valerie

Hi Dennis Quite agree with you - it is more attractive on the inside than on the outside. I emailed the Bishop's office at the RC Diocese in Leeds and this is the reply which I received. Thought you might like to read it as it sounds as though the Roll of Honour is safe for the time being. Kind regards Judith Dear Mrs Kettlewell I am unable to answer your question with certainty until we know how the building is to be used in the future. The building is Listed so we are not permitted to remove the memorial without the consent of the Local Authority. The Local Authority will not allow it to be removed until proposals are agreed for the future use of the building. In any negotiations about removal of any fixtures or fittings from the building, the LA will start from a position of wanting to retain everything in the building. Removal will be their last resort; we would need to demonstrate conversion of the building to a new use depended upon it. We are already in negotiations with the LA for a new specific new use, which may result in retention of most of the items currently fixed to the interior of the walls, including the war memorial. If conversion proves to be incompatible with retention of the memorial in its current location we will apply to remove it. I think it is then likely to be put into storage until we find a suitable alternative location for it. Relocation will be very difficult because the memorial in St Mary's church is so large. As regards the roll of honour, in at least one case we have copied all of the names into a book of remembrance, which is now accommodated in a nearby church and the pages of the book are periodically turned to show all of the names in sequence. I am sorry this is not a complete answer to your question, but it is the best I can provide at present. If you contact me in about six months time I will provide you with an update on the situation. Hi Everyone Can you help someone with a job description……..the lady is looking for Cotton Winders in this case in a Haworth mill. She has googled, and come up with various conflicting answers………….I know one of you will be able to give her the correct definition. I would hate to give her the wrong answer. Hi Dennis Many thanks for your reply, it is much appreciated. It is a great pity that many of these beautiful old churches are coming to the end of their lives. My paternal gt grandmother who died in 1942 used St Mary's and it is one of her son's whose name is on the Roll of Honour. I will phone the diocese though and see if they know anything. I looked at the Telegraph & Argus [local paper] to see if they had any 'latest news' and, apparently, the building is to be put up for sale for development. Perhaps if I take it up with the T&A it might do more good in delving out information. Hi Judith St Marys was my church from 1945-60 and I was at the Junior Boys School next door until 1952.I left Bradford over 40 years ago but remember the church well.Unfortuneately I know nothing about the Roll of Honour but would the Bishop of Leeds Diocesan Office be able to help. I had no idea the church had closed although it doesn't surprise me with population shifts and considerably less church -going than there was years ago. Hello Listers I am sure there is someone on this list who help me with some much needed information. I now know that the above church has closed down but is still in situ. My paternal grandmother's brother has his name on the Roll of Honour in this church and I am trying to find out what is going to happen to this Roll of Honour. Ever since I found out that his name was listed there I have tried to contact the person in charge to try to get a picture. I have never had a reply. The Bradford FHS had an article in the Bodkin [quarterly newsletter] which showed the memorial but not close enough to make out any names. Does anyone have any news about this beautiful church? Many thanks. Judith K
Hi Janet Thank you so much for your reply. My Sam Mortimer was born in Bradford and I do not know of any Halifax connection or Shipley for that matter at this stage. Kind regards Magdalen

Stuart, I received the attached email which you apparently meant to sent to someone named Dennis. You will need to re-send it to Dennis as he did not receive your original email. Good luck. Hi Everyone, I have newly subscribed to the list and would like to ask if anyone can help me with some information on Street locations in I believe the district of BOWLING in the 1850-1900's. I am trying to locate Lizard Street where some of my wife's ancestors lived on the 1851/1861 census's. The family name is MURGATROYD and the one I am tracing at present is Thomas born in Lizard Street in 1845. Many thanks in advance to all who can offer any help with this, Best regards Dennis
Hi Janet, I have 2 Wesleyan ministers from around Bradford, both of whom are Wilsons. My gggrandfather was Matthew Wilson b. 1808 Oakenshaw near Bradford and went as a missionary to Tonga in 1835 and later settled in South Australia. His brother James Wilson b.1795 Oakenshaw was also a Wesleyan Minister who remained in England although he moved around several counties, married 3 times and had 6 children. Their parents were John Wilson and Sarah Lockwood. Unfortunately can not see any direct connection with your Wilsons apart from the fact that we both have Wesleyan ministers.
