Hi List CArole has given me permission to place any of her postings which may concern Bradford onto our list......so here is one she prepared earlier. From: carole@clyde80.freeserve.co.uk (Carole Clyde) 1846 - On the 7th, 8th and 9th, of September, at the Victoria Cricket Ground Woodhouse, Leeds, there was a most exciting and interesting match at cricket between eleven of all England, versus eighteen of Yorkshire. The Yorkshire players were: R.CADMAN Esq MR. HARGREAVE MR. BARRETT and MR IBBETSON from Leeds MR. A. CROSSLAND MR. J. CROSSLAND and MR. G. BERRY from Dalton MR. J. WADE from Harewood M. J. NORTH and MR J. FAWCETT from Boroughbridge MR HALL MR. INGLE MR. BARKER MR. WADSWORTH MR. ABEL MR. BURLINSON and MR. FOSTER from Bradford MR. CHATTERTON from Wentworth. The final score was All England: first innings 102, second 125, total 227 Yorkshire: first innings, 72, second 84, total 156. the Yorkshire players therefore were vanquished by 71 runs, 63 of the score, however, being byes, wide balls, and no balls, while Yorkshire added to their score but 8 from similar balls. If so, could you perhaps explain what kind of verification you need? If they are in the PRs, then they took place! If what you mean is more information, then I'm afraid there won't be any more than what is in the registers. Or did you get them from the IGI, in which case the registers is the obvious place to confirm them. You should be able to borrow films of the Bradford parish church registers througha Mormon FHC, if you have one anywhere near you. Hello Listers, This interesting note appears in the parish register: "29 April 1791 William GREENWOOD was strangled in a few minutes warning at the sign of the Croft Inn in this town about midnight on Monday 25th, age 30 yrs. Let all drunkards beware of Excess in liquor. Sawood" Does this ring any bells? Best wishes to all, David Binns, Tyneside
Hello listers, Seeking information on the early years of THOMAS PARKINSON (born circa 1813/1814 in Pudsey and died August 1874 in Farsley). On 23 May 1836, he married REBECCA CRAVEN at Calverley Parish Church (St. Wilfred) and , from the parish register, he was a farmer. In August 1837, ELIZABETH was born (the first of their three known children), followed by SARAH ANN in 1844 and JOHN CRAVEN in 1850. When Elizabeth was born, they were living at Wadlands Hall. According to the publication "A Topographical Dictionary of Yorkshire" dated 1822, Wadlands was a farmhouse in the township of Calverley-with-Farsley and the parish of Calverley; 3 miles from Bradford. By 1849 it looks like Wadlands Hall may have been known as "Wadlands Grange", at least for a time. Does anyone have further information on Wadlands? Regarding Thomas and Rebecca's children:- ELIZABETH PARKINSON married ABRAHAM PAWSON in 1861 at Farsley. SARAH ANN PARKINSON married JOSEPH FARRAR (date and place unknown - but Sarah died early 1883 and it seems possible that Joseph remarried to NANCY ARMITAGE later in 1883). JOHN CRAVEN PARKINSON married ELIZABETH GOTT in 1876 at Farsley. Are the above names known to anyone? Also, any details on the birth of Thomas Parkinson would help me get through my brick wall. All help is most appreciated. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself with cool emoticons http://messenger.msn.co.uk
The entertainments comprised selections by a string band, conducted by Mr.Wm.Waddington ; sketches by Mr.S.H.Nichol ; performances by a number of children, including a representation of the comic drama 'A Rough Diamond'; selections by the Springwell Pierrots ; and music by the polyphone & gramophone, lent by Mr.R.Barraclough. The bazaar was largely patronised each day,the nett proceeds amounted to 205,which exceeded the anticipations of the promoters. ======================================== I hope someone out there recognises some of these 'Slack Siders' of a century ago,as their loved ones ! Hi Hilary, You don't mention where you got these marriages from so I presume they are family marriages and all from Bradford..... Marriages as early as that probably took place at Bradford Parish Church.... ....and I believe they have been filmed by the LDS. I would start there by ordering the films that are needed to check those dates out. There may indeed be an index that would at least verify that the marriage did indeed take place there. Then the PR would give you what was actually entered. My early marriages don't say very much and do not give parents names etc. Just a suggestion. Kindest regards. Elaine Pickard. Ottawa. Canada.

Hello all, I have been watching the "Wyke lists" that Derek has been sending out with interest as I have ancestors in Wyke from about 1825. If any Hollands are in any other lists I would be keen to hear about them. I have sent a couple of messages but I sent them to the Yorks list by mistake, so thanks to Dave Jassie for redirecting them. Pat
