Hope this helps most of us. http://www.1837online.com/ Welcome to Family Research Link Updated Friday 21st February 2003.Family Research Link is absolutely delighted to announce that on the 10th February, after almost three years of our ongoing discussions and negotiations with the General Record Office, the decision has been made to relax access to index information less than 100 years old. These changes are due to take effect from 1st April 2003, at which date we will be pleased to open our site to you with the indexes from 1837 to 2001. We hope that you will be as thrilled as we are with this outcome, which we believe benefits the genealogical community worldwide. This site will enable you to search and browse the birth, marriage and death indexes for England and Wales, from 1837 to 2001. There is a modest charge for viewing, printing or saving copies of the indexes. Our minimum charge will be £5 GBP, for 50 page views. In order to view the indexes, you need to >download the DjVu viewer</A> which will be necessary for use of the site. This will enable you to view, print and save the indexes, as well as zoom in on those difficult-to-read names. You can download the free viewer now, so that you will be ready to start your research the moment the site goes live. 1. [ BRAD] Address Book virus
    2. I've just been notified by one of my Bay Area friends that her address book was infected with a virus. It had a teddy bear log on it. As a result, yours may have been also because I have your address in mine.  The good news is that it is easy to get rid of.  The virus is called jdbgmgr.exe and it cannot be detected by Norton or McAfee anti-virus programs.  It sits quietly for about 14 days before damaging the system.  It is sent automatically by messenger and address book, whether or not you send e-mail.  Just follow these simple steps and you should have no problem: Yes, I found it on mine and deleted it.   1.  Go to "start" 2.  Go to "find" or "search" 3.  In "files/folders" write name jdbgmgr.exe 4.  Search in your "C" drive 5.  Click "find" or "search" 6.  The virus has a teddy bear logo with the name jdbgmgr.exe 7.  DO NOT OPEN! 8.  Right click and delete it. 9.  Go to the recycle bin and delete it there also. 10 If you find the virus, you must contact everyone in your address book also.   Sorry for the inconvenience.   Diane

    1. Re: [ BRAD] Knurr & Spell
    2. John Spencer Wilkinson
    3. Hi Valerie Although it is a simple game, there was an enormous interest in it because of the amount of money riding on the players. I can never remember which the Knurr and Spell is, so I have called them the bat and the ball. The aim of the game was to hit a small wooden or pot ball as far as possible. The 'bat' was about four foot in length with a fairly whippy shaft, and a piece of wood about 3 inch by 1 inch at the end for striking the ball. When the player was ready the ball was 'fired' into the air, before being struck. There were two methods of getting the ball into air, (1) the ball rested in a cup on the end of a seesaw, and the player hit the the other end with his bat to fire the ball into air. (2) the cup was at the end of a spring, that was held down by a catch, and the the player sprung the catch with his bat and the ball was fired into the air. I tried my hand at it, many years ago, and never the hit the ball, but my friend's grandfather hit it every time. If I remember correctly, there are examples of the equipment in Shibden Hall museum at Halifax, which is also well worth a visit to see how our ancestors lived in the 16th/17th century. 1. Re: [ BRAD] 1841 and 1851 census Bradford - Vicar Lane
    2. John Spencer Wilkinson
    3. Hi Colin If I remember correctly, Vicar Lane from Bridge Street to Leeds Road had the high blank wall of the old Exchange station on one side, and maybe old houses on the other side. Vicar Lane on the other side of Leeds Road, in Little Germany, has changed very little on the outside, the old warehouses being made into modern office suites. The new Law Courts are on the site of the old Exchange station. The new station and transport interchange are on the site of the old goods yard. During the late 50's a large amount of wool came through there, carried to the mills/warehouses on flat trucks pulled by Scammel three wheeled tractors.
