Thanks to all of you who answered my question abount the name Minnie. I know Minerva is the proper name, but I was wondering if there were any others. My dilemma is Minnie (born in 1864 in Bradford, the second oldest daughter of my grt. grandfather RICHARD COCKROFT. I received a very black copy of the Yorkshire Daily Observer from the Bradford Library and it looks like the marriage of this 2nd daughter was named Rose. Could someone in Bradford (when you go to the library) look this marriage up for me? It is from the newspaper of 18-9-1906, pg. 8 Marriages. LISTER married COCKCROFT (with another C) It says she is the second daughter of Mr. C COCKCROFT of Richmond Rd. My grt. grandfather's house was at 17 Richmond Rd. but his name was Richard. He did not have a brother named Charles. The mystery deepens. Diane in California
Hi All I am new to this list. I am hoping to trace a Kenneth Galleymore b.<1920> in Wolverhampton, married to Audrey ? and went to live in the Bradford area in the 1940/50's or any of his descendants. He had a brother Arthur, who was killed in WW2. His father was John Thomas Galleymore b. 1886 in Wolverhampton and was married to Gertrude. His fathers brother was George Edward Galleymore b.1894 and married Maud Lee in 1923. Hope someone will be able to help me. Thank you Joan
Janet When I started to read your email, I thought great Janet has some news on my Hardy JOWETT. I regret to say that I am unable to help you with the father of your John JOWETT. The only think I know about Hardy JOWETT is according to the 1881 census, he was 9 years of age. The census also lists his parents Joshua and Elizabeth and his siblings. Growing up I remember my grandmother mentioning a relation she had who was a missionary in China. When my father died in 1996 I found among his papers, his parents Harry BENSON and Edith COATES, birth certificates and their marriage certificates There was also a newspaper clipping from the Yorkshire Observer Buget ( the newspaper heading was hard to read) dated 21 November 1936, the article details the death of Hardy JOWETT a Wesleyan Missionary in China and his subsequent burial in Scholemoor Cemetery. Hardy had been a misionary in China for 40 years until his death in July 1936. Hardy was obviously the relation my grandmother used to speak about. The connection between Edith and Hardy I have yet to find. I am thinking that perhaps Hardy's mother Elizabeth was a COATES or a WRIGHT. These names being the surnames of Edith's parents Fred COATES and Jerrisa WRIGHT. On the Free BDM site there is a Joshua JOWETT marriage, in the year I would expect him to marry. There isn't anyone named Elizabeth as a possible spouse, so I will need to go through the GRO indexes. If you have a look at the JOWETT web site, the full article about Hardy is printed. Perhaps some one on that site may be able to help you find John's parents. Try www.Jowitt1.org.uk Best wishes Howard ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This email, including any attachments, is intended only for use by the addressee(s) and may contain confidential and/or personal information and may also be the subject of legal privilege. Hi Jack I've found this bit of software amazing for online trees... just "compile" your GEDCOM file from your current Family Tree Program and it generates the web pages and makes them appear "dynamic" too! This is the obvious thing to do if you wish to discover the names of her parents. Try FreeBMD first and if she is not there you will have to check the General Register Office Indexes (copies of which some libraries and Mormon FHCs in Australia have). Dear List, We here in Denver, Colorado, have been shoveling snow! In the past 2 days, I think our total got to about 3 feet, about a meter deep! I helped shovel this evening, so am very exhausted! My job called and said they will try to be open tomorrow. I am to come to work, IF I can get out to the highway, to get there! Next week who knows, what the weather will be? I have been very busy with my genealogy, just not doing the message boards. Take care friends everywhere. My computer friends and rellies have kept me "sane" the past 2 days!
