    1. [ BRAD] New rootsweb list for Halifax, WRY
    2. Hi Yorkins, After some gentle pressure and a bribe [by way of an old mug found on ebay with the inscription "A Present from Halifax"] from cousin Lesley Abernethy, I find myself running a new rootsweb list for Halifax. Many of you will know it is a place held dear in my heart and although I really didn't want to start getting freshly involved, having already abandoned the West Riding Surname List to the capable hands of Magdalena - here I am! However, I've found the Bradford list very useful and am sure the Halifax list is much needed and will mesh in nicely with Bradford. I also feel confident that it will be a very popular list and that should I feel overwhelmed there will always be someone to take it over. The list covers the ancient parish of Halifax including the townships of Halifax, Northowram, Warley, Ovenden, Midgley, Sowerby, Norland, Skircoat, Southowram, Hipperholme, Brighouse, Shelf, Rastrick, Fixby, Elland, Greetland, Stainland, Barkisland, Rishworth, Soyland, Langfield, Erringden, Stansfield, Heptonstall, and Wadsworth, and you can subscribe in the usual way by emailing: ENG-YKS-HALIFAX-L-request@rootsweb.com [list mode] ENG-YKS-HALIFAX-D-request@rootsweb.com [digest mode] with the word subscribe in subject line/message. Hope to see you on the list. Kind regards, Tana Willis Johnson Longborough, Glos. 3. Hi Owen, I think you need to read the information on Genuki that explains about ordering certificates. http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/RegOffice/ There will be the local registry office along with the GRO Office at Southport. http://www.statistics.gov.uk/nsbase/registration/CertE_W/other_certificate_o btain.asp You can also use a researcher as I do which works out better for me in Canada as he charges about one pound more per certificate than Southport does plus he sends it 1st class airmail and they dont. http://www.research-uk.co.uk/ Hope this helps. Its for real as I did have it on my computer. We followed the instructions and have got rid of it. Trouble is we don't know how long its been there. So I don't want anyone losing their precious Genealogy material. Virus detectors don't pick it up because it isn't activated until the 24 days are up. Sorry about this although we haven't had anything to do with it. Good luck, Hilary, Australia. --------------A667EB38568CEC2EC5CE11FF Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Received: by mail3 (mbox roygirl) (with Cubic Circle's cucipop (v1.31 1998/05/13) Fri Apr 4 20:44:31 2003) X-From_: royboy@cybernex.net.au Thu Apr 3 21:40:06 2003 Received: from bilbo.cybernex.net.au (qmailr@bilbo.cybernex.net.au [203.28.168.3]) by mx.alphalink.com.au (8.11.6/8.9.3) with SMTP id h33BaTK07891 for <roygirl@alphalink.com.au>; Thu, 3 Apr 2003 21:36:29 +1000 Received: (qmail 20872 invoked by uid 0); 3 Apr 2003 21:13:30 -0000 Received: from pppr1.cybernex.net.au (HELO NEILMARKS) (203.28.168.31) by bilbo.cybernex.net.au with SMTP; 3 Apr 2003 21:13:30 -0000 Message-ID: <001601c2f9d5$d6884400$1fa81ccb@NEILMARKS> From: "Neil & Karen" <royboy@cybernex.net.au> To: <Undisclosed-Recipient:;> Subject: Fw: Teddy Bear Virus Date: Thu, 3 Apr 2003 21:39:11 +1000 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2600.0000 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2600.0000 X-Virus-Scanned: by AMaViS perl-11 X-Spam-Status: No, hits=3.0 required=6.7 tests=OUTLOOK_FW_MSG,OUTLOOK_UNDISC_RECIPS,SPAM_PHRASE_05_08, TO_MALFORMED version=2.44-dm_020403_1815 X-Mozilla-Status2: 00000000 Subject: Teddy Bear Virus I found I had this virus and am now following the instructions below to alert all in my address book! I got an email from a colleague that if I am in his address book I may have a virus. Sure enough I had it when I followed the instructions. You are receiving this alert because you are in my address book. Please follow theinstructions carefully to avoid problems in your computer within 14 days. It is easy to clear. The virus is called JDBGMGR.EXE and is not detected by Norton or McAfeeanti-virus programs. It sits quietly for 14 days before damaging thesystem. It is sent automatically by messenger and by the address book, whether or notyou send emails. ..The good news it is an easy fix. 1. Go to start button in lower left corner. Click on it and then move your pointer up to "find" or "search", and then click on "files or folders" 2. A new window will open. Type in the top space the name "JDBGMGR.EXE" 3. Make sure it is set to search your "C" drive (or whatever your main drive designation is.) 4. Click "find now" or "search" 5. The virus has a Teddy Bear logo with the name JDBGMGR.EXE 6. STOP! DO NOT OPEN!! DO NOT OPEN!!! 7. Right click on the logo and point and click on "delete" on the window. Note: It the search indicates that you have multiple copies of this file, youmust delete each copy. 8 Go to recycle bin on your desktop and right click on it and then empty recycle bin. 9. IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS, YOU MUST CONTACT EVERYONE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK! To DO THIS: 1. Open a new e-mail message, 2.Click the icon of the address book next to the "to" 3. Highlight every name and add to "BCC" 4.Copy the message, enter subject and paste to email, ... 5. Unfortunately you must do this quickly.....only if you find the file on your C drive. --------------A667EB38568CEC2EC5CE11FF--

    2. David, I see that you are researching the PARKINSON name. My "Parkinsons" lived in the Calverley and Farsley areas between 1836 and 1891 (definite) and maybe outside these dates. Is this also within the area of your research? If so, we may have info. to exchange. Regards Michael from Lancashire

    3. Lynn, It looks like the site relies on cookies a lot and also uses pop up screens and java applets. If your web browser has anything other than a low security setting you may well have problems. Also, if you have any pop up killers/disablers installed it is likely to cause problems. I'm not comfortable with this web site and was also alarmed by the lack of the secure (SSL) padlock icon on some of the screens when you are inputting personal information. This is not a good sign. The fact that you have to lower your security settings to use the site is disturbing.
