BlankDear All, I am searching for Robert BREARCLIFFE and his wife Sarah. Sarah was born in DARLINGTON, daughter of Edward and Margaret PLACE, in 1828 and according to her father's will, written in 1883, the couple were of BRADFORD. I can't find any sign of them, including in the 1881 census (LDS) Any information would be welcome. Walter

Kind regards Judith Kettlewell Dear all, the first small batch of birth indexes from Bradford have been added to the Yorkshire BMD web site. Jan: Each e-mail software program has its own formatting protocols some of which can be modified by the user, for example, line length. So no matter how you format a message it may look different when received by someone else. Re: COCKROFT This may be of help in building a picture of the COCKROFT family??? In the Family Bible list of siblings of one of may ancestors is Tom Leach (b.2.2 1853), son of John & Sarah Ann COCKROFT. It appears that Sarah Ann was née LEACH (b. 8.7.1837) and after her death (26.10.1866) Tom was brought up by his grandparents. They all lived at Allerton - members of the Congregational Church. I note that there are also COCKROFTS at Heptonstall and Hebdon Bridge where Sarah Ann's mother came from, and where Sarah Ann may have met John on a visit to her grandparents??? Diane, I am also looking for COCKROFT folk. Emma COCKROFT HARRIS was born in Allerton, Yorkshire abt 1843. According to the 1881 census she is living at 245 Girlington Road, Girlington (Bradford). She is then 38 and living with her husband, William HARRIS. She was William's second wife and it may have also been her second marriage. Perhaps her first husband was a SHAW. The 1891 Census lists her as a 'worsted weaver'. Because of other family lore, I would guess she worked at Lister's Mills. She was my g grandmother. I know from a Westminster newsletter I get sent to me here that Westminster Council are challenging the 2001 census, having 'lost ' an impossibly large number of residents compared to 1991. They were threatening to sue I believe, so a mid-term census might be an answer. What a boon for researchers in future should it happen! How on earth could it be claimed that the 2001 census was the most accurate yet - lots of forms not delivered. It was up to the household to send the form back etc. It used to be simpler when an enumerator called around and asked a few simple questions. I wonder what the percentage return really was for 2001, compared to the 19th century censuses. There have frequently been censuses at the half way point, but these have usually only been on a sample of the population and the detailed results, in terms of names and addresses, would probably not be published in the way the main censuses are Jack Earnshaw -----Original Message----- From: Jan Perkins [mailto:janperkins@blueyonder.co.uk] Sent: 14 July 2003 13:43 To: ENG-YKS-BRADFORD-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ BRAD] UK Census in 2006 ??? Hi Margaret, Do you know at which church Martha was buried ? By 1864 Bradford had many, many more churches than the Parish Church [St.Peter's].I'm afraid no KS would be likely to search through them all in the hope of finding her. The church burial records I've seen have very little info.on them----- Name of deceased Abode/Address Date of Burial Age of deceased If your lucky it might give date of death in the margin. With child burials it sometimes gives name of father. Rarely,it might say 'wife/husband of so-and-so' ; sometimes 'widow/widower'is added. Cheers--------Derek.
