    1. [ BRAD] Enumerators notes RAG
    2. vgilbert
    3. Hello searchers, although I have not found the names I was looking for I found extra help 'walking the area' through these notes There are many names clearly shown in these notes 1841 Bradford Bowling HO7 1292 09.The actual census image is very poor in this section but the pencil was obviously newly sharpened when he set off ! Hope this helps someone Bowling (Enumeration district 5 ) " All that part of the Township of Bowling beginning at the house occupied by James HUDSON Beerseller +numbered 593,and every house in the east side of Wakefield Road down to a low house numbered 722 and occupied by James NEWBY return and enter a yard to the left , take ale within then go through a passage and there will be found five dwellings occupied by John MYERS, John MILLS George WALKER, James HARDISTY and one that was empty, turn to the left +there will be found five houses, which are occupied by Thomas BLACKBURN no 723 Jonas DAVIS no 724, William TEAN ? no 725 John RASTRICK no 726 and Joseph BOYLE no 727.The last five houses is the beginning of Back Lane and the boundary of Bowling +Bradford, turn up Back- Lane toward the iron works + begin with no 728 occupied by Thomas MYERS and proceed forward on the south side of Back-lane to John SHEPHERD's shopkeeper, no 764, including it " Perhaps he knew we would not be able to read much of the other pages. This Enumerator was Benjamin Ferrand and there are more notes like this for this area. Can anyone recommend a source for a good map of the area at this time 1840's / 1850's? My 1908 has helped me locate some of this area but not Bowling completely. The detailed notes make me think I could follow a map around. Can post more like this if required. Hope someone finds a name they want. I'm looking for CROWLEY /CRAWLEY GALLOWAY, CREADON /CREEDON MALTBY TOWN Valerie Nr Malton n Yorks

I'm looking for John HAIGH, an accountant, age about 45, and his daughter Mary, age 20, living probably in the Manningham area, although they could possibly be in Bradford West, or maybe Wibsey. I'm hoping to find that there was also a wife there. Any help gratefully received Regards Margaret

    1. [ BRAD] EVANS - Gooda Farm - Ingleton
    2. Jan Perkins
    3. Hi List As I mentioned earlier this week, I bought an old picture of a farmhouse at Ingleton, Barry in North Yorkshire came up with what I am sure is the correct address.................NOW we need to find some-one who is researching this family, and reunite them with their ancestors home. <I think it most likely that you have a picture of Gooda Farm - SD 670 731. It is situated about 200yds north of the A67 to Burton in Lonsdale Road, and about one and a half mile from Ingleton as the crows do it. There is a public footpath from the above road to Westhouse which passes through the Gooda farmyard. Re the family EVANS, checked the 1851 for the area (Thornton in Lonsdale) - no EVANS then in the area, Gooda was occupied by the TOWERS family, and had been since at least 1837.> Thanks Barry for your help. The Hustlers were very big Bradford wool staplers and Quakers in the 18th century, the dynasty being started by John Hustler (1715-1790). He built Undercliffe House and there is still a Hustler Street at Undercliffe today. He was also responsible for raising much of the capital to build Bradford Piece Hall in 1774, where the wool merchants traded their wares. Bradford history books are full of references to the Hustlers and I expect a trawl with Google will produce results. 1. [ BRAD] LEACH - Thornton and Allerton
    2. G'day all - especially to all those sweltering in the northern summer - from a cool 11 degree C southern winter's morning! I am interested in hearing from anyone researching the family of John and Mary LEACH/LEECH who at the time of the 1841 Census lived at Hill Top, Allerton. (They may have lived there all their married lives...?) Their children were: William b. 1806; Martha (Matty) b. 1809; Jonathan b. 1811; Hannah b. 1814; John b. 1816 - (all these were baptised at Kipping Independent Chapel, Thornton) ; Sarah b. 1821; Mary b. 1823; Thomas b. 1827 and Grace b. 1829 (all these were baptised at Allerton Congregational Chapel) In 1841 there were two 3 year old girls in the household but I do not yet know where they fit in! I am particularly interested in Jonathan m. Sarah/Salley /Sally SMITH (of Heptonstall). Jonathan was a shoemaker and in later life combined this with a newsagency. Between 1847 and 1875 (at least) his business (and home??) was in New Row/Road, Allerton. I have not been able to find New Row/Road on a 1980's map of Allerton, so would be glad to hear what it later became known as. In 1891 widowed Sally lived at 21 North Road (View) Allerton. Prior to that they may have lived in Chapel Terrace where their son was living at the time of his marriage in 1880. Elizabeth Hooper s.w. Victoria, Australia
