    1. Ralph BELL's marriage details sought c. 1852? Bradford?
    2. Norman Gallop
    3. According to a son's birth certificate Ralph's (usual spelling) wife's name at marriage was MILLER. I could not trace a likely marriage on-line and am hoping for help in the matter. It occurs to me that, given the age of Ralph and Grace, and the fact that their eldest Jane was born in 1852 when Grace was 32ish, Grace and/or Ralph may have been married before. Incidentally, Ralph does not seem to have been in Bradford in 1851 even though Jane was born there in 1852 (so its says). Ralph's father and several brothers were variously in Leeds and Silkstone in 1851. Thanks in advance, Norman G. * 1861 Census;19 Roberts Street, St. Peter's, Bradford South, West Riding, Yorkshire; Ralf BELL, head, mar, 46, carter of all work, b. Yorkshire, Wansey (sic) Dale; Grace BELL, wife, mar, 42, Scotland; (Meant to be Wensleydale presumably although Ralph was baptised in Muker, Swaledale.)

    2. Jazille Eilles
    3. Dear Stephen I am researching Brogden also. My John "Thomas" Brogden married Susey Smith of Denholme, Bradford, but he was dead by 1901. He died in Leeds Infirmary. None of his sons were John. My Smiths were from Keighley, moving to Denholme by the 1841 Census. Hannah Smith was a Shackleton prior to her marriage in 1826. I think there was Sugden involved in her or his mother as one of their children was called Sugden Smith. Good luck Jaz sorry for the delay in my response. 3. Hello listers, I am trying to knock down one of my brick walls again, since I have recently got some new information. Here is what I know: grandma, Emmie GAREAUX, née ARMITAGE, born ca 1873 in Huddersfield went to America, and returned to England in 1920 with three daughters. They went to live with an aunt and uncle in Bradford (possibly a sister of Emmie). Emmie died in 1932, and they were living at 32 Brearton Street, Bradford at the time. We don´t know the name of the aunt and uncle. However, there is an Eric Barker mentioned as a witness at one of the daughter´s marriages in 1933. He could be the uncle. I am wondering if someone could do a lookup for me to see if: - Eric BARKER married a wife ARMITAGE - Eric BARKER can be found in the voting register to be living at 32 Brearton Street somewhere between 1920 and 1932 Thank you very much, Eliane Heseltine Zoetermeer, The Netherlands -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 2. Robert Welbourn
    3. The IGI has a number of baptisms to John Pawson in Otley, including that of William, between 1786 and 1809. There appear to be two distinct couples involved, one being Sarah and the other Hannah. If I were you I would get the film of the BTs from the LDS and try to sort out which offspring were which. Very often the occupation of the father will be given, so that will help. One of the marriages was most likely that of John Pawson to Sarah Buck in 1792. 1. Clan Gathering
    2. Valerie Gilbert
    3. Hello List, My Family History research started 6 years ago and has already given me some real surprises.Last weekend I had a Family celebration and gathered almost 30 close family to see some of the records, photos etc that have come to light. I put up a few display boards with related items (photo copies, scans mostly.) For people who have not done research, (just seen some TV programmes) it was fascinating. Just a beginning. I hope to write it up of course. I feel more photos and links will come of this. I included Matrineal and Patrineal lines and used the Russian Dolls to illustrate for my granddaughters about Grandma's Grandma etc back 200 yrs. Just in time I found some ' fill in and keep ' childrens' Family Tree books advertised in a Fam History magazine. Although this is just the beginning of tracing our family history I feel I have more interest and support now. The whole weekend was great fun and I have more to tell now to those who could not come this time. Whatever will I be able to reveal in 3 or 5 years time? This can be such a rewarding, exciting and surprising hobby! I discovered it in retirement but I'm hoping some of my ' clan' will get going sooner. 3. I wonder if anyone might be able to help. My Great Uncle Albert Uphoff was born in Hull in 1884, the last of 5 children all born in England to German Parents. Family law suggests he acted on stage at the Bradford Alhambra and also in Blackpool under the stage name of Bert Kelly. I have Googled/Yahooed Bert Kelly to no avail. According to family gossip, he was friends with Florrie Forde. I have Googled her too but not come up with anything about Albert. Apparently he never married but it would be really good if someone could point me in the right direction to finding out more about him and his acting life. Many thanks in advance. Karen :))

    1. Sir James Holt
    2. Dear Folks, I am going to try another approach...I THOUGHT I was certain the father of my ancestor Elizabeth Holt, who married Alfred Holt, Abram Holt. But I have not gotten anywhere with this thought and a distant cousin was told Elizabeth's father was Sir James Holt, whoever he may be. So, I will ask....does anyone has any information about a Sir James Holt who may have been married to an Elizabeth Unknown with children John, Sara, and Elizabeth (and possibly others unknown)? This would be in the Leeds/Bradford area sometime before 1850. I do know that Elizabeth Holt, the daughter, died before 1881 and had her first daughter born about 1858. My cousin has a picture and on the back, it has "Sir James Holt" and on the front, bottom it says "Appleton & Co. Bradford". I sure hope this helps and someone might be lurking out there with some information. Both my cousin and I heard the same story about Elizabeth Holt Hanson's husband, Alfred. It was reported that he had gone through two fortunes.....presumedly his own and that of his wife. Alfred is also said to have been a publican.....owning Vesper's Gate, and possibly owning or running another. (I will need to refresh my memory on that one. So....I know all this is confusing, but I am looking for the father of Elizabeth Holt....possibly Sir James Holt or Abram Holt. I do have some other bits of information if this rings a bell with anyone. I would love to hear from anyone with any thoughts about this person. I really have not done any kind of search for Sir James Holt so anything is appreciated. Best regards and many thanks, Lou Toms

    1. Tempest & Barraclough from Wibsey & Tong
    2. Sherry Shallenberger
    3. I recently found a very interesting entry on A2A (Ref. Tong / 3 / 790) referring to the conveyance and surrender of a 500 years lease, on May 30, 1867, for 4 cottages at Holme in Tong. The parties involved were Ellen, William, Jane and Martha Barraclough all of Wibsey Bank Top, Mary (Barraclough) Brayshaw of Bowling Old Lane, and Henry Barraclough of Wibsey - all children of Elizabeth and John Barraclough of Wibsey of the 1st part and Thomas Richard Plumbe Tempest of Tong Hall of the 2nd part. If anyone is related to any of these individuals, I would love to hear from you. Best regards, Sherry Shallenberger
