    3. Hi List This is my first posting and is directed to list members in Bradford. I came to Australia in 1965 as a teenager with my parents. My parents are still alive and in their 80s. My mother told me recently that her mother, father and an un-named person were buried at Bowling Cemetery. The last being her mother Jessie Brewerton in 1964 (nee Coates), her father Charlie Brewerton was buried there earlier. My mother told me that another person was buried in the same grave. His name was Sydney or Sidney surname unknown. Would anyone having access to the Cemetery be able to find any information for me including, the name of the third person, the location of the grave. Thanking you in advance David Rawnsley South Australia

So yes, it is undoubtedly "Yorkshire". Some 19th century enumerators had appalling handwriting. The reason I think it's "Yorkshire" is that if you look at the entry for the wife, Mary Holt, you will see that she was born at St Austell, Cornwall (Bradford having been crossed out). So when the enumerator came to list the children after her he had to put Yorkshire at the beginning of the line and then Bradford. I've studied it for several minutes at different sizes and I am 99.9 per cent certain it says Yorkshire. Compare it with the very first entry on that page, right at the top, where it says quite clearly "Yorkshire, Keighley" and I think you will see what I mean. 1. Sally HAGUE or HAIGH, Yorkshire
    2. Howard Geddes
    3. My ggg-grandmother Sally HAGUE married John BOTTOMLEY 14-May-1796 at Bradford pc. She died 28-Jun-1819 in Soaper Lane there and is buried in Dolphin Chapel, Clayton Heights, Bradford. She was recorded as age 39 upon death, implying born about 1780 but perhaps in reality a year of two earlier. The couple lived in N Bierley (Bradford) right on the border with Shelf (Halifax), and had at least seven children. Looking for her parentage. A Sally HAGUE was baptised 2 Mar 1777 Bradford, father Joseph HAGUE. A Sarah HAIGH was baptised 1 Feb 1778 Bradford to David HAIGH, who also had a son Tamar HAIGH bpt in 1783. The 1841 census shows a Tamar HAIGH born abt 1761 in Northowram, so he could be related to David e.g. an uncle. A John HAIGH/HAGUE and Angelina FLETCHER lived (very) nearby for years (apparently no children): he was born about 1811 - so a nephew? Anyone know anything about these people? Thanks Howard Geddes

    1. Hannah CARR born Bowling
    2. Howard Geddes
    3. Looking for any evidence/record of the parentage of Hannah CARR, my gg-grandmother who died 28-Feb-1880 in Grove, Shelf (Halifax) and is buried in Wade House Chapel, Shelf. She married James BOTTOMLEY on 21-Dec-1818 Bradford, with her named as Sarah CARR. The censuses record Hannah CARR being born in Bowling in approx 1801. The couple lived on the Shelf / N Bierley border; they had at least eight if not nine children. Analysis of the IGI shows she might have been a daughter of John CARR & Martha WILSON or of Joseph CARR & Betty FEARNSIDE. Can anyone confirm or repudiate this? Howard Geddes

Norman, May I suggest contacting Shelagh A Mason in Kent, UK, who is a member of the Guild Of One Name Studies, aka GOONS, - because she has a large data base of STEAD names...and is very nice;-) Contact her using: [email protected] It is often worth checking a surname on the Guild website as many surnames are being extensively researched - sadly no Smiths or Browns.....but lots of others. Here's the page to look at all those currently registered: http://www.one-name.org/register.shtml Good luck, Ruth in Brum. > The Two Charlies are my gg grandparents. 3. Hi Christine, Thanks so much for all the help in researching this family. I sent for the marriage license and Margaret Benn's father was listed as Samuel Benn so who Benjamin was is a mystery - maybe her father's brother. Since they were living at the same address, that's a possibility. I have a friend whose father married her mother's sister after her death. I'm coming to believe no matter how much information you find, there seems to be more questions. Regards. Esther __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Her answer "You can search Scholemoor yourself if you go to the office and I think they may have the Bowling records there also. You can have a search done for them but I think it is rather expensive and also someone I was in touch with said they waited absolutely ages. I have found the man at Scholemoor very knowledgeable and pleasant to speak to on the phone and he has checked the odd one for me when I knew the exact date of death --over the phone by me phoning him back an hour or so later" Jan www.simplesite.com/Keighleyhistory

    3. Hi Harry Bowling Burial Registers are at Scholemoor. The charge for looking up a burial etc was £27 GBP. It may be more now. They used to do this for freee but the Bradford Council put a charge on it. This also applies to Utley Cemetery in Keighley. Last time I visited there they even charged to look to see who else was in a certain grave. Searching the registers for yourself is free but obviously you can't do this from Canada. Undercliffe Friends usually ask for a donation.
