    2. Hi Barbara Looks like we are related somehow. Ellen Pemberton was my G. Grandmother. She married John Keighley Pickard in 1860 (I have a copy of their marriage certificate). They had 2 children - Jeremiah & Annie Lilias Pickard. Jeremiah was born in 1861 and was my grandfather but died before I was born. Annie Lilias was known as Lilias in the family but became a singer of some note using the name of Valasta. Ellen died about 1869 and John remarried in 1870. Ellen's mother was Grace Ambler, born 1797 in Baildon. Her father was Joseph Pemberton born 1790 in Denton Yorkshire Grace Ambler's mother was Hannah Oddy- born about 1755 in Baildon. Her father was William Ambler born in 1752 in Baildon and died April 1799 in Baildon. If you have any more information on the Pembertons would love to hear from you.Can you figure out how we're related? In the last 24 hours I have found 3 "cousins" through the Keighley line. John Keighley Pickard was the son of William Pickard and Jemima Keighley. Hope to hear from you. Best regards Jackie PICKARD Fyfe Montreal

I think this would be a good place to look if / > when you can find a map > > Regards > > Charles Many thanks for your response. I have found the Alan Godfrey map and Regent Street runs south from Saltaire Road, parallel to Thompson Street which used to stretch from Kirkgate to Saltaire Road. It appears that the present easterly end of Wycliff Gardens was, in fact, the northerly end of Regent Street which was a cul-de-sac. In the 1852 map on www.Old-Maps.co.uk there is an area which appears to be named NewYork Delf, to the east of where Regent Street was and around the area now containing the road called Taunt Street. An old book I have on the history of Shipley suggests that New York, which fronted Saltaire Road, was probably named after the quarries at New York Delf . On the ground floors of the two 3 and 4 storey buildings are shop premises apparently fronting the grounds of the Working Men's Club; Ben Dawson's (hairdresser), Dovers herbalists, Lights fish shop and Reddy's confectioners. My late mother has written on this page that New York was next to Regent Street. Google Earth shows that there has been a great deal of what looks like 1960s redevelopment which is interesting as the early maps show a number of quarries around this area. I should be grateful for anything more about the New York Delf and Regent Street areas. Regards, Barry Emmott
