Also Google Friends of Undercliffe Cemetery and you will find that this charitable body, who took over the cemetery from Bradford Corporation, has details of approximately 125,000 people buried there. This is not just an index but full details of every grave, as far as I recall, since I have ancestors buried there. I'm not sure about Scholemoor but I would be surprised if there wasn't something similar. Also look at the website of the Bradford & District FHS. -- Roy Stockdill Editor, Journal of One-Name Studies Guild of One-Name Studies website: www.one-name.org Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." Do indexes exist for either of these cemeteries? I have dates for ancestors' burials, but no information about memorials etc. Regards Margaret Switzerland
Judith, I typed in "Wade House Chapel, Shelf" (with quotation marks around the whole phrase, as here) into google and came to this page on Genuki showing a photo of the chapel and saying it's now used as a community centre: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/PhotoFrames/WRY/WadeHouse1901.html So that answers your question on whether the chapel is still there. I can't see any headstones on the photo though it's possible that their inlaid in the paved area around the chapel or situated on the other side of the building. Hope that helps a little. Many thanks Janet. I didn't mean to be dismissive of Jennifer's information, I am most grateful for it, but as this chapel, in it's present building, was only opened in 1901 I wondered if there was another older building which would be unused now but complete with its graveyard. I am looking forward to the registers being on cd/dvd, whatever, are there births, marriages & burials or just the burials. Many thanks to Janet, Jennifer and Mary Lou for their help. Hello Jennifer Many thanks for your help, it is much appreciated but this is not the right chapel although it is the later one. This one was built in 1901 and the one I am looking for is an older one which had burials from 1826 and earlier. Maybe it was built on the same site and the headstones etc were removed. Anyway, many thanks. I am new to this board and I am researching Farrar ancestors. I am looking for the family of Harry Farrar, born about March 1871 in Bradford, Yorkshire. Harry was married to Pheobe Todd and he came to the US 3 times to visit a 2nd Cousin William A. Farrar. The first time in 1904 and his occupation was tripe dresser which is the same as in the 1901 UK census. He came in 1907 and in 1913 and the last visit he was listed as an oil merchant and his residence in all visits is Hebden Bridge. On the 1913 Ship manifest it lists his wife at Regent House. Harry’s mother was Grace Farrar, born ABT 1831 to John Farrar born ABT 1792 and Jane ? Born ABT 1795. I have a feeling John and William’s father William E. might have been brothers. John his wife Jane and their children Jane, Hanna E. Grace and Elizabeth all were born in Yorkshire. If anyone has information or connections to this Farrar family I would enjoy hearing from you. Thanks in advance.
Can anyone tell me please whether or not Joseph MYERS was a widower when he married Hannah RAMSBOTTOM IN Bradford 26/12/1781 Many thanks for any assistance anyone can give Regards Margaret Switzerland
Hello I found, yesterday, that many of my HOLMES ancestor's and families are buried in the above chapel graveyard. Unfortunately, due to a giant list of items to search in Bradford, I didn't have the time to search the baptisms, just the burials. Have any registers for Wade House been transcribed? Also, is the chapel still there and are there any headstones still surviving? I have tried to find any details on this chapel on Google but nothing useful about the chapel turns up. I appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thank you. Judith K

Dear Chris, Thank you for your kind offer. I have that information and I know he is on a memorial at his school and in Edinburgh on the Scots Guards Memorial. What I do not know is whether he is also on a memorial in Baildon where he lived. It had never occurred to me that there would be more than one memorial to a serviceman but now I realise there can be several and I am trying to record each of them, so if anyone knows about memorials in Baildon, please tell me Michael Allbrook -----Original Message----- From: eng-yks-bradford-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-yks-bradford-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Chris Gamble Sent: 06 October 2007 01:08 To: eng-yks-bradford@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [YKS-BRADFORD] Baildon War Memorial Hi Michael, I have found his entry on the Commonwealth war graves commission site if that helps. By chance, via google, I've discovered that Ermysted's Grammar School, Skipton, has just published a book about the 54 former pupils of the school who died in World War One. It's complete with photos, letters, maps and so on. I haven't seen the book yet - you can order it directly from the school - but am intrigued to learn from the author (a teacher at the school) that my great uncle Arthur Frederick RYDER, who died at the Somme, is one of those featured. You can read about the book here: http://www.cpgw.org.uk/news.cfm?cID=1&nID=15 And on this archive page of Ermysted's Grammar School: http://www.ermysteds.n-yorks.sch.uk/archives/19141918/19141918.htm you'll find an easy-to-read table showing the names of the 55 ex-pupils whose names appear on the schools roll of honour. (Apparently one of them shouldn't have been on the roll - that's why the book features only 54 old boys). Meanwhile, I've discovered another goldmine for anyone researching people from the Skipton (or Craven) area around 1914-18: Craven's part in the Great War - http://www.cpgw.org.uk/craven_war_memorial.cfm?sID=174-02&mCode=SKIPTON 'My' Arthur Frederick turns up there again, with a photo and several excerpts from the local newspaper. (I expect to find that quite a lot of this will appear in the Ermysted's book). What a thrill, though, to find a photo of your ancestor on the web. The newspaper articles even mention my great grandfather THOMAS BAINBRIDGE RYDER and the address in Skipton where my father grew up. Just goes to show that it's worth checking on those ancestors who died young, leaving no children. Maybe some of you will have similiar luck. Jennifer
