    1. Help please? researching BATEMAN/GIBBS
    2. Proutings
    3. Hi I am new to this list. My research has just moved into this area. My GGGrandfather was Benjamin BATEMAN baptized 19 Oct 1823 at St John Bedwardine. Parents were William BATEMAN b abt 1795 buried 1 Dec 1826 married 24 Dec 1822 at St John Bedwardine to Sarah GIBBS b abt 1801 buried 12 Apr 1825 at St John Bedwardine. When Benjamin was born Williams occupation was given as Glover living at what looked like (Nr)?? Pitmaston, any idea what and where this could be? It was hard to make out. Both William and Sarah signed the register and with good handwriting. Would a glover be educated enough in 1822? Benjamin is a bit of a mystery as he turns up in 1851 in Norwich as a Tea dealer/ Wine merchant and by 1871 income from houses & Annuity (I think). He died before 1881 but his wife is given as Annuitant. I am wondering how an orphan son of a glover at 3 ends up like this. Any body on the list researching these names? I would also be grateful for any back ground information on the area, occupation and the church. Also where do I look for wills? Sorry for all the Qs., but any help with this would be gratefully received. regards Sharon in NZ
