Hi all, I know I have been on this list before but this family is really getting to me as I can't seem to find anything to do with this family other than this. When a member of the family was asked a question where was she Born she said Dunnington, Wars. Now I take it this could also have been WORCS. It all depends how it was how it was said. And seeing it was years ago I am trying both areas like before hoping someone out there might have abit of info. Susan HURDMAN, Born abt 1815-1825 was in Jail for stealing Gloves. The jail was in Worcester. She also had a Son out of wedlock in 1846 and he was 4yrs at the time while she was in jail. This child was in a workhouse in the 1851 census and was 4yrs old at the time when she was in Jail. His name was Frederick HURDMAN, Born 1846 , Claines Twything, Worcester. It is on the Mormans IGI. Susan has alo written down her Father was John HURDMAN, Labourer. I cant find any info regarding this or even her Birth,Christn etc. I was wondering if the 1841 census would help. Would anyone have that?I am getting desperate as I have been looking for this family for along time. There must be some other info than what I have. Susan Married Thomas MAYERS (Meyers) in Norfolk after she came out of Jail which she got 12 months hard labour. They both Immigrated to New Zealand. If anyone here could help me I would be so grateful as i just can't get anywhere with this at all???? Thanks, Noeline in Brisbane
Hi Noeline, the 1841 Census is not indexed, it would mean searching hundreds of images. I did have a look at the 1851 Census which is Indexed, there were a few Hurdman families around Evesham and Droitwich, and a John born 1814, Farm Labourer at Martley. I would try and find Susan on all Census entries, that should give you some clues as to where she was actually born. Then it is a case of searching the Parish Records, unless you can track down any family Wills. Hope this helps. Best Wishes from Linda.
