Hi, I just subscribed to the Worcester List. I was wondering if anyone knew where I should look online or write to in regards to a marriage of Jasper Newborough who was born ca. 1585 and was married to Margery Smart on 5 April 1608 in St. Mary's Church, Old Swinford. Also, they had a son Benjamin Newbrough who died in Stourbridge 18 September 1684. Do you think this person would have attended St. Mary's Church also or should I be looking for another church in Stourbridge? Someone gave me this information, but didn't have proof to back it up. I need to conform this information. Any help in researching this area of England would be helpful. Judy Weber

Judy Stourbridge did not have a church until mid 19th Century - and most of the pople who kived there attened either St Mary's Old Swinford or St Mary's Kingswinford - others went to Halesowen ( which wa sin Shriopshire in 17th century. Transcripts for St Mary's Old Swinford Parish Registers -are only from c1647 ( a few earlier ) but - I don't think many earlier records are available ,Kingswinford is a little earlier but no Newborough until 1685 - have located the following Newborough/Newbrough/Newbruff entries in Old Swinford. 1647 Buried Jespar NEWBOROUGH 29 May 1648 9th September Baptised Elizabeth daughter of Joshua NEWBROUGH 1649 10 December Baptised Samuel son of Jaspar NUBROUGH 1650 4 March Bapt.Mary dau of Joshua NUBROUGH 1651 24 January Bapt. Jesper son of Thomas NUBROUGH there are more records between these Burials 1672 4 September Buried Jasper son of Jasper NEWBROUGH 1675 11 April Joshua NEWBOROUGH 1683 25th August Mr Joshua NEWBROUGH 1684 21st July Joyce wife of Benjamin NEWBROUGH 1st September Benjamin NEWBROUGH Marriage 1643 18 Dec 1843 Benjamin NEWBROUGH to Joyce HICKMAN 1668 19 May Mr Thomas HANNON to Elizabeth NEWBROUGH by License 1673 20 May Thomas BLICK to Allice NEWBOROUGH POOR LAW Record for Old Swinford Parish NEWBROUGH Josua apprenticed to Joseph WALKER Ironmonger for 8years or until 24 years old. There is reference to NEWBROOK of Foxcote 1611-15 in Parish Index, details would need to be obtained from Worcester Record Office. There is a Monumental Inscription on an upright Slab "to The Memory of JASPER NEWBROUGH who departed this life 23 Feb. 1770 aged 62 years.
