Hello everyone, I am trying to find where an ancestor and his family lived. The ancestor is Richard Jarvis, born at Ebrington in the Cotswolds and also buried there but who died in the Workhouse at Shipston on Stour. Most ancestors have been found in the Cotswolds, but Richard and his family do not appear there. I have just received a certificate confirming his death at the Workhouse but still need to know where he was living prior to entering there. Can anyone help with the following queries? 1. Is it possible to access documents from the Shipston Workhouse which might show where the inmate was living prior to entry. 2. Was there a 1841 census for Worcestershire when Richard would have been 75 years of age. Any help much appreciated. Regards to all, Colin Jarvis.
Hi Colin, Although Shipston on Stour was a part of Worcestershire, it was a 'detached' part, with a good 5 miles clear water between it and the mainland... And 75 years ago it was transferred to Warwickshire, whose Records Office is likely to hold what records (probably extremely few) survive of its Workhouse. However, Shipston was included in the WOR 1841 Census - in Piece number 1203, "Sections" 11 (Workhouse) and 12 (The Parish).
