Hi Trudy and Charles, I had a quick look on the Ancestry 1861 census but I am not sure how complete it is. I have two different LANE families in my tree and knowing how many of them are about I was sure there should have been more hits than this. I could not find any hits for EDWARD LANE aged 6 in Staffordshire, the only LANE's that came up for Oldbury was this family, but no Edward: 118, Langley Green, Oldbury in the village of Langley. If you find any of your LANE family in either ASTON, Birmingham or CANNOCK, Staffordshire this is where my family were. He should have been a 6 year old at the time of the 1861 <census.
