    3. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear... Lines Have Been Drawn - with Hobby-Horses Galloping in all directions... The Combatants would seem to be A) Those who know the History Centre Building; and B) Those who apparently don't, but nonetheless hold Strong Views as to what they believe it should be. It would be a great help were all who have commented so far to state which group they fall into. I'm in A... The Building is *NOT* a solidly-constructed Victorian Library (in which such a proposal might indeed be a Good Thing). It is a cheaply-built 1960s structure, once part of a Co-Op Store, with poor sound insulation in its ceiling. It is opposite a large pub with loud music, and also hosts around a dozen public-use computer terminals, so the regular users already have to put up with a certain amount of extraneous noise. The Applicant is understood to be the Licencee of a Punk Rock Bar, so those who seem automatically to assume that this is to be a traditional 1950s Youth Club could well be allowing their prejudices to show. OF COURSE it's a Good Thing to "Keep Young People Off The Streets", but (as in house-buying) the basic rule should be "Location. Location. Location." This is the wrong location. I have lodged an objection. Gus
