Helena Have you considered the possiblity of Emma being illegitimate ! And possibly her mother was a Sister of William BLADON. I learned very early on in my research to not take for Gospel Father's names given on Marriage Registrations. My GtGt Grandfather < of Kidderminster > married a woman who was illegitimate. Margaret Roebuck, born in Worcester c 1835, and Baptised with her siblings in Kidderminster at St Mary's Kidderminster in 1839 - only parent name given Lucy Roebuck, in 1849 Lucy ( widow ) married William Lenard. When Margaret married in 1851 she gave her father's name as William ( no surname). Naturally I searched for some time for a William ROEBUCK, assuming Lucy had been married and because father was deceased his name had not been included in the Baptism Register. Kind friends have searched Worcestershire records for the Marriage of Lucy to a William ROEBUCK, finding nothing, only success was Baptism of a Lucy Roebuck in Worcester in 1801, noted as base born, Mother also Lucy! Unfortunately the 1841 census does not include marital status. Would be interesting to know what Lucy would have put! Margaret is not the only one in my tree, to put a 'unknown ' father down, when giving details for the Marriage Registry. The stigma of illegitimacy was feared , and often the girls didn't want their future in laws to know the truth. I have come accross an EMMA BLADON born at Kidderminster around 1845. On the 1881 census she is staying with one of 'my' Bladon's (Margaret Theodora daughter of William) at Oxon Cheshire and is described as Cousin. Emma's son is listed as nephew. I sent for Emmas marriage certificate and she married Joseph WORRALL in 1874 at Plemstall Cheshire giving her father as Thomas Bladon. William had no brother called Thomas and I can't find one to fit anywhere. Wi.lliam was born at Tardebigge son of Edward who was the gamekeeper. He fo a strange reason moved to Chester at the same time as Emma. He married at Chester in 1850 and lived at Marchwiel Denbigh. Emma is on the 1851 census in Chester bording with a William and Margaret Gee, 1861 in Wrexham workhouse, 1871 at Lower Kidleston as a servant. He age varies but she always gives Kidderminster as he birth palce. Has anyone any suggestions for finding he parentage? There dosn't seem to be a birth under Bladon or varients.
