Hi All I have just received this and it affects you if you use Worcs. Library & History Centre in the Trinity, what do you think? Sorry I do not have an email address for Mr Arnold. Can you forward this to anyone who may be interested. -------- A matter of importance is that an application for an entertainment licence has been received by Worcester City Council. It concerns the rooms directly above the Worcs. Library & History Centre in the Trinity. The applicant wishes to run a "Drop In Centre" for young teenagers and to organise entertainment for them, e.g. discos, Karate demonstrations. Although the claim is made that such activities would take place on just three evenings per week, when the History Centre is not in use, the actual period covered by the licence would be for the hours of 11am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and shorter hours on Sundays! It is obvious that there is a danger that the thin end of the wedge may become thicker once the licence is granted. The disturbance in the daytime to researchers in the Centre would be intolerable. Due to the incompatibility of the activities in the two establishments it is vital that as many objections as possible are sent to: Mr.R.Arnold Environmental Services Worcester City Council Farrier House Farrier Street Worcester WR1 3ES As we have only recently become aware of this situation, time is short. Objections have to be received by Wednesday 15th June. If you wish to object, time is of the essence! I have sent my letter and one has been sent on behalf of the Committee of the Friends of the Record Office. ----------------- Mike Fisher Wythall,WOR One-Place Genealogical Study http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~wythallindex/index.htm

I'm not sure that it will. What is the problem? That there might be "discos" at 11 a.m.? Is that really likely? What are you afraid of? Or is it the case of "oh not it's those yobs again, we'll object just on principle because we don't like noisy young people"? -- Chris Ramsbottom researching: BARRATT, DANCER, FELLOWS, GOODES, ROBINSON, TUCKLEY, WHEWAY CAMPTON, GREGORY all in and around Birmingham/Smethwick, 1850 to present day
I would have written but the letter would not go until 5.00pm tomorrow from here and no chance it would arrive on time! It is an ill advised use of the accommodation.
