Dear Alison, -----Original Message----- would like to hear from anyone who may have an interest in the PARTRIDGE or STANTON families from Stourbridge. I'm helping my elderly neighbour research his family. ... John PARTRIDGE was born around 1794 in Stourbridge. He married an Ann and had 2 children that I know of. John PARTRIDGE was born around 1836, also in Stourbridge. He married Sarah JORDAN in 1856 in Old Swinford, Stourbridge. They had 9 children, the eldest - Alice Mary was born around 1857 in Stourbridge. She married John STANTON in 1878. John was also born in Stourbridge around 1856. His parents are Edward and Ann/Honour STANTON. I believe they were born in Ireland. All their children were born in Stourbridge so I'm presuming they immigrated after their marriage or they immigrated seperately and married in England. The STANTON's were living in Round Court, Stourbridge in 1861, New Street in 1871 and Wheeler Street in 1881. The PARTRIDGE's were living in Park Street West, Stourbridge in 1861, Wheeler Street in 71 and 81 and were at High Street, Wollaston in 1891. I've not seen the 1841 or 51 census.----- This may be easier than you thought! John was christened 12 February 1794 and married Ann Priddy 4 January 1822. They were my great, great, great grandparents. I know of five children: Louisa, Maria, John, George Henry and Edward. Maria married Thomas Ford 30 January 1848. John married Sarah Jordan, as you know, on 6 July 1856 and I have a record of only eight children (Alice Mary, Herbert, John, Arthur, Edwin, Florence, Sarah and Jesse). Alice mary was born in the April-June quarter of 1857 and I have a record of her marriage to John Stanton in the second quarter of 1878. Alice and John were with her parents at Wheeler Street in the 1881 census, also as you know. After that I have no knowledge of them. I am descended from John and Ann's youngest son Edward, who married Eliza Forrest in Cradley in 1862. Edward died when he was still quite young, leaving five children, and Eliza a widow for over 30 years. I was born very close to where they lived, 90 years later. I have traced the Partridges back to about 1710, all in Stourbridge. I have quite a bit more detail, especially about John and Ann, who were beer sellers in Coventry Street, Stourbridge on and off for some years. I believe he was a gardener in 1837, a beerseller in 1840/41 (Bentley's Directory - Worcestershire) and in the 1841 Census, a retailer of beer in 1842, a gardener again when son Edward was born in 1843 and when son John married in 1856, and a publican in 1851 and when Edward married in 1862. I hope this helps. It seems like we could usefully exchange more information. Best wishes to you and your neighbour in Melbourne. Nigel Brown ENG-WOR-CRADLEY@rootsweb.com
