Thanks for your help Gus/ Steve, The person is John Jones, aged 36 living in Biddulph (Staffs) in the 1891 census (RG12/2848 - p28/ sch148) It looks like "Great Datford" to me - when you compare the individual letters to others on the page. No county is given which would make you think it was in Staffordshire. But I can't find it there either. Then on the 1881 census John Jones birthplace is Stourbridge, Worcestershire (John is in Wolverhampton in 1881, and It is definately the same John Jones. I can't find him (yet!) in 1901. Regards, Mark
Hi Could the following be your John Jones:- John Jones aged 55 born Brettell Lane Stourbridge Worcs. Labourer in iron works. If so could the word be Platts .rather than Dats . I Brettell Lane is just north east of the Platts at Amblecote near Stourbridge where in the 1830s Thomas Webb the glass manufacturer moved into the Georgian mansion known as Platt House and set up the Platt Works. At one time in the 19th century there was a forge to the south of The Platts. Regards Jacquie >
