Paul Do you know where/when Charles and Sarah married ?? If it was Cradle and they stayed in the area, they could be on the Staffordshire 1851 Census . For some unknown reason the Census Districts do not match county boundaries. Do you know Sarah's maiden name ? I have checked the WOR 1851 for all variations, without success. All I can say is that by the time of the 1851 census he was married to Sarah who would have been aged about 17 or 18 and was, I believe, born in Cradley. It is likely that they would have been living in the Malvern area. For what it is worth, by the time of the 1861 census, Charles had died but Sarah was living on Upper Howsell Road, Malvern. I would just say that as Charles could not read or write the name Simmons might have been spelt in whatever way the census clerk thought appropriate. Hi Helen and Paul A Charles Symonds married Sarah Hadley (her father Richard Hadley – labourer) at St James, West Malvern on 11th February 1850 and where they lived was in the “Cradley portion of district”. If this is the right Charles and Sarah Symonds/Simmons, then their daughter Helen Louisa Symonds baptised August 4th 1850 may help you pinpoint them on the 1851 census either in Worcestershire or Herefordshire.
