Hello everyone, Can anyone help with the following? I believe that Shipston originally came under Worcestershire before being transferred to Warwickshire. Could someone tell me up to what year the town came under Worcestershire. Thanks and regards to all. Colin Jarvis
Hello Colin, Shipston on Stour - both Town and Civil Parish was transferred from the Administrative County of Worcester to that of Warwick on 1 April 1931. Which Answers The Question As Set - but doesn't seem to answer WHY it was raised in the first place. If looking for it in all the Censuses (other than 1841**) it - and the whole of the rest of the Registration District of the same name, which included Parishes in Gloucestershire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire - was classed as being Warwickshire. **Not too sure about the LDS Transcription of the 1881 though. *That* seems to use a geography all of its own. As for looking on IGI/FamilySearch, my guess is that it's likely to be included under both Counties, but I've never attempted to look or check!
