    3. I am returning after a long break to resume my research. As my pennies are limited, could someone tell me what information I can find on the web without payment. I see the BMD previosly free through Ancestry is not so now. I am particularly interested in BMDs. My interests in Worcestershire are in the Evesham area - WALKER, JELFS, MACE, SMART, PROCTOR & BISHOP Many thanks for any help Mike

    3. Hi Mike Well the obvious answer is FreeBMD - which is now more or less fully complete for most years before 1910 (see their coverage graphs for those quarters still "in progress") and now rapidly advancing into the 1920s. http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl However they can only transcribe those pages which have been filmed, and these pages are also the only ones to be found on Ancestry. The GRO removing the paper indexes before the replacement access promised in the MAGPIE Project is probably a dereliction of their statutory duty.......... Good luck Polly ----- Original Message ----- From: "MichaelWalker" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, October 30, 2007 10:06 PM Subject: [WOR] Internet availability of BMD I am returning after a long break to resume my research. Apart from www.freebmd.org.uk which is an ongoing volunteer project so not yet complete, there are a couple of PAYG sites that have the GRO indexes from 1837 to 2005. They are www.familyrelatives.com and www.findmypast.com both of which also have other databases as well. www.1901Census.nationalarchives.gov.uk despite its name has all the censuses plus the BMDs. Then there www.familyhistoryonline.org.uk and www.ukbmd.org.uk which might be useful. There are also freebmd's sister projects: FreeCEN (censuses) and FreeREG (parish registers). Bear in mind that these are also volunteer projects so not yet complete.
