In later years he was a glass maker in the Kingswinford area. Can anybody trace any baptismal records, or suggest possible sources/ leads? Interestingly, in 1871 Samuel is given as born Oldbury and Ann as born Ludlow Shropshire! In 1881, Samuel is still reporting a birthplace of Oldbury, but Ann has been replaced by a Mary Ann, born Dudley. Can't find them in 1861. > Oldbury was part of Shropshire in 1810, many people attended the church at > Halesowen , which was also then in Shropshire. ( until c 1840/41) Oldbury became an independent parish in 1844, at which time it also transferred to Worcestershire. Before that it was part of the parish of Halesowen, and so many Oldbury baptisms will be found there. However it did have its own chapelry of St Nicholas (later Christchurch) and its own registers, which have been published by the BMSGH. It was also a hotbed of nonconformism, with a very significant proportion of baptisms taking place in Methodist and other chapels. My great aunt Myra BERESFORD (1896-1929) married a John T. HOLLOWAY in Oldbury in 1927. Regards Paul Prescott
