Hello Worcester, Just joined to seek any information on a marriage between James Lett born 1828 and Teresa B/Theresa B surname unknown, probably about 1847 - 1850. They adopted a son Walter Porter probably born about 1850 and shortly afterwards emigrated to USA. First settling in New York later in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. In 1841 census James is with parents James and Martha Lett, Turnpike house, Bath rd, Worcester. Thanks in advance Alan Booth
HI Alan, I found this on the 1860 USA census: James Letts age 28 Teresa Letts age 24 James A. Letts age 2 Walter Paster age 10 This looks close enough to be your family. They were living in Brooklyn, New York at the time. I could not find them on the 1870 census, however I have to admit, I didn't look too hard. Sometimes the handwriting is so bad that the transcriber writes something completely different. I did find them on the 1880 census. This is from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania: James Lett age 43, occupation: Photo Material Mer. Theressa B. Lett age 41 James Lett age 20 Sydney Lett age 15 Grace G. Lett age 14 Emily L. Lett age 7 Annie Mason age 40, servant No Walter this time but he is old enough to be out on his own by now. I know the spelling is different on each and the ages are not right but everything else seems close. I got these off Ancestry.com. If you want me to send you the images, let me know. Good luck, Suzanne Boughton ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alan Booth" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, December 04, 2007 10:58 AM Subject: [WOR] James LETT > Hello Worcester, > Just joined to seek any information on a marriage between James Lett born > 1828 and Teresa B/Theresa B surname unknown, probably about 1847 - 1850. > They adopted a son Walter Porter probably born about 1850 and shortly > afterwards emigrated to USA.
