Hello Terry, In 1841 there was a William GARLAND, "60", Mayor's Officer, born in County recorded in Frog Lane [now Severn Street] Worcester St Peter, [HO107/1209/17; Fo 7; p6] Also in the household were: Ann GARLAND, "60", not born in County Maria GARLAND, "30", born in County In 1851 - in Diglis Street, Worcester St Peter [HO107/2042; Fo 829; Sch 110] William GARLAND, Head, "M", 77, M, Retired Mayor's Officer; Worcester Maria GARLAND, Dau, U, 45, F, -, Worcester St Martin This was about "a couple of doors down" from the far end of Turners Buildings, where Samuel was innkeeper of The Shades. I couldn't find Ann, who *may* have died at some stage after the 1841, despite William being shown as "married". In 1841, Samuel, 23 [with wife Mary, 21 and son George, 1month] was recorded "at" an unnamed Pub in Friar Street, Worcester St Helen. [HO107/1209/9; Fo 23; p26] No occupation is given for him or Mary, but their names immediately follow that of the Landlord, George WORMINGTON, "55". The presumption has to be that they were live-in bar staff. *IF* William's age was correctly given in the 1851, he'd've been born c.1773-74 [quite a bit earlier than your estimate] - and if his birthplace is correct then the absence of his, Maria's and Samuel's baptisms from the IGI would imply that he was a Nonconformist of some denomination. I *suspect* that he could well have married Ann HOLDER at Lydney, GLS on 15 May 1804 - this at least would fit with her having been born "out of County" - but you'd need to see the Parish Register entry for additional information.
