Dear List, .. I am interested in finding out the smallest amount of information regarding the Harrison family Butcher Shop in Kidderminster at least from about 1830 right through to maybe the 1920's. Three generations, Gt Gt Gt Grandfather Frederick Harrison the High St, Kidderminster, Gt Gt Grandfather Frederick Harrison of 2 Worcester St, then Gt Grandfather Charles Edward Harrison of 74 Bewdley St. Finally Grandfather Herbert Huntley Harrison married Nellie Ann Miller, the daughter of local Superintendent of Police Benjamin Miller. It would be great to find out local Harrison's that maybe connected to this family line, or have knowledge of the Butcher business they ran etc. How do I contact a local newspaper to search for obituaries. Hi Jason My first port of call would be http://www.historicaldirectories.org/ - online trade directories, fully searchable. It should clarify the existance and location of the shop. It should also indicate whether there were any other butchers in the area or whether yours had the monopoly. Once you have the exact name of the business, you could try http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/ for details of any mergers or liquidation. I found a piece from when my ancestor split the business into two and the partners continued as separate enterprises. Maybe somone with local knowledge can advise about local newsapers for obituaries.
