Hello to everyone, Looking for connections to BIRD and CARELEFS, CARELESS...one time spelt Cayless which I found on a 1876 birth registry. My 3rd Gr. grandparents: Joseph BIRD B. ABT. 1826 Oldbury, Stafford ~ his father Benjamin BIRD. Joseph`s wife: Sarah Carelefs - Careless b. abt. 1830 Dudley, Worcester ~ her father Richard Carelefs. Joseph and Sarah married: 1846 Tipton. Children: Wm. BIRD b.abt 1848 Round Green, Stafford. Joseph BIRD b.1854 Black Heath (Oldbury) Stafford. John BIRD b.abt. 1859 Langley, (Oldbury) Stafford. Anne S BIRD b.abt. 1863 Oldbury, Stafford. Richard BIRD b.abt. 1866 Oldbury, Stafford. Jesia (Jesse) BIRD b.abt. 1869 Oldbury, Stafford. Mary Emma BIRD b.1876 Arsley, Barnsley. Benjamin BIRD b.ABT 1874 Arsley, Barnsley. In the 1871 census there were three boarders: Robert WARD (age 18) b.abt.1853 Oldbury, Stafford. Benjamin ASTIN (age 21) b.abt. 1850 Oldbury, Stafford. Frances FARREL or FARNELL (age 56) b.abt. 1815 Ireland. All were coal Miners. I also am hoping someone can help explain the changes in districts. I get so confused when asking for help and taking the info from the 1841 to 1871 census. The change over from Worcester to Stafford. What infomation does one give out when researching? Very confusing. Thank you all for taking the time to read my message. Would appreciate any information. Regards, Sherri BC Canada _________________________________________________________________
Hello Sherri, Oldbury is a Difficult One - almost the only simple thing one can say of it is that it was never actually a part of Staffordshire! It was a township/chapelry of Halesowen - a parish that was largely in a 'detached part' of Shropshire until 1844, when the SAL portion was transferred to Worcestershire. That said, for Censuses and the registration of BMDs it was *considered* to be in Staffordshire, for it was in West Bromwich Registration District. "The Wisdom of the Ancients" strikes again.
