Hello Wendy, I have a James Bowkett, from census records, born 1861 Leigh WOR, married to Louisa Perkins in Acton Beauchamp about 1887-88. They had children, Mary Louisa 1888, Nelly 1890, James W. 1897, and Charles E. 1895, all in Acton Beauchamps. This area isn't far from Shelsey and even closer to Martley. I have been unable to find a birth on Free bmd, or Freereg, or Family search for James, so who knows, he might be your James.
