I can't find a Shrobden in Herefordshire but there is a Shobdon, near Leominster. FreeBMD has the marriage of WILLIAM GEORGE CAMPION to ADA HUGHES in the Sep quarter of 1908 at Gloucester RD, which is confirmed by the fact in the 1911 census entry that says they have been married two years. If you then find her in 1901 she appears as a hospital nurse, aged 31, visitor, single, in the home of a couple called Edward and Hannah BOOTH at Handsworth. This gives her birthplace as SHOBDON, Herefordshire. She appears with all matching details in 1891 and 1881 as well. In 1881 she was a scholar at a private school at Leominster, along with what looks to be an elder sister called Lucy, and in 1891 she was a companion to a widow. In 1871 she's with her parents Edward and Lucy Hughes in Shobdon aged one. Finally, FreeBMD has her birth at Leominster RD in the June quarter of 1869. I don't see your difficulty at all, I'm afraid because she is easily traced in the records. -- Roy Stockdill Genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." Births Jun 1869 HUGHES ADA, Leominster vol 6a page 516 (Leominster RD included Shobdon). 1871 census - she is found at Leddicott, Shobdon, aged 1, birthplace Shobdon, with parents Edward and Lucy Hughes and 4 siblings (RG10, piece 2719, folio 44, page 8). Her father Edward was a farmer in seemingly quite a big way, farming 337 acres and employing 8 men and 2 boys. 1881 census - she's at a pupil at a private school in Leominster, aged 11, birthplace again given as Shobdon, with elder sister Lucy (RG11 piece 2606, folio 6, page 3). 1891 census - she's a live-in companion at Hereford to a widow of 81 called Margaret LODD or TODD, now aged 21, birthplace Shobdon (RG12 piece 2059, folio 63, page 15). 1901 census - she's a visitor in the home of Edward and Hannah BOOTH at Handsworth, West Bromwich, now 31, single, hospital nurse, birthplace Shobdon (RG13 folio 2709, folio 104, page 36). Marriages Sep 1908 William George Campion and Ada Hughes - Gloucester RD vol 6a page 651. 1911 - William and Ada are in Edgbaston, Kings Norton reg district, he a carpet factor and employer aged 56, she 41, born Shrobden [sic] Herefordshire. They say they've been married two years. It looks as if Ada had a fairly privileged upbringing, became a nurse and married later in life to a man of good position. FreeBMD has a marriage for William George Campion in the Sep quarter 1879 in King's Norton RD (vol 6c page 527), so possibly Ada was his second wife. -- Roy Stockdill Genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." 3. Hi Roy >>I don't see your difficulty at all, I'm afraid because she is easily >>traced in the records.<< Surely his difficulty is that he is trying to find an Ada HUGHES who was born in Cirencester? Kind regards Polly
