Elaine, I'll bet it's cold in Canada. I think the answer to ages and birthplaces should lie in census records. Certainly for Maria Douglas. In 1841 she should still be living with parents. I always advise checking every available census. It's amazing the differences that creep in. Sometimes you even find relatives in the same household. Mary Powell will be a bit harder as she would be born around 1795 and may be deceased by 1851. You'll have to do the lookups as I can only access records when at the library.
