My father's 3 sisters were British Home Children in 1908.  They travelled on the SS Carthaginian from Liverpool to Halifax, Nova Scotia.    This was given to me after a request on Theshipslist. The three girls left Worcester for Liverpool where they boarded the next day. My contact with Middlemore in Canada was a Patricia Roberts-Pichette.  e.mail address  mabexsec@sympatico.ca but that was back in 2004 so this address might not be current.  She was very helpful and sent me photostats of all the records they held from when the sisters arrived until the age of 18 when they stopped being in the care of John Middlemore.   Regards   Eveline   ________________________________ From: Dennis Flavell <dennis@fflavell.freeserve.co.uk> To: Chesterfield <ENG-DERBYSHIRE-CHESTERFIELD-L@rootsweb.com> Cc: Sedgley <ENG-STS-SEDGLEY-L@rootsweb.com>; Eng- Worcester LIST <ENG-worcester@rootsweb.com>; BRITISHHOMECHILDREN@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, 30 April, 2010 20:35:41 Subject: [WOR] British Home Child Seeking any information on Benjamin Job Flavell, born 1880 Walsall, and placed in an unknown orphanage / workhouse when his mother died. He later re- joined his newly wed father in Clay Cross by the year 1891. (1881 Census shows the family living with ONIONS relatives in Nottingham). Meanwhile sister May FLAVELL b.1881 Walsall was said to have been 'adopted' and taken to Canada. She was probably a British Home Child, and appropriately in this present "Year Of The British Home Child" I am seeking any information on her through the means of Adoption Agencies, Orphanages, Workhouses, Passenger Lists to North America, Census Returns (US + Canada), Marriage, Roots Lists, etc. I do belong to the British Home Child Roots List. (Benj. Job and May did have a cousin William FLAVELL a British Home Child). With best wishes Dennis FLAVELL ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ENG-WORCESTER-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
